Happy September, Slumdog family! ❤️
We want to take a minute to invite you to our 10th Anniversary Birthday Brunch at Clinch River Brewing and to let you know of changes to come!
For the past decade, Slumdog has been saying YES.
Yes to the dog who had nowhere to go.
Yes to the cat who needed a chance.
Yes to the emergency phone call.
Yes to the transport that had to happen.
Yes to the foster who needed help.
Yes to the shelter animal who was running out of time.
We said yes… even when it was hard.
Even when we were tired.
Even when the foster list was full.
Even when the bank account was empty.
Even when we had no idea how we were going to make it work.
Because somewhere along the way, “someone should help” became “we’ll help.”
And now, as we head into BER months, we’re making a BIG change.
We have spent years learning what works, what doesn’t, where the gaps are, and where our energy can make the greatest difference.
And we’ve realized something:
Rescue isn’t just about pulling animals out of a shelter.
It’s about preventing them from ever needing rescue.
It’s about spay/neuter.
It’s about transportation.
It’s about networking.
It’s about partnerships.
It’s about connecting people with resources.
It’s about helping the communities around us become stronger so fewer animals end up in crisis in the first place.
We’re narrowing our focus.
We’re choosing sustainability over simply trying to say yes to everything.
But before we turn the page…
We want to remember what 2026 has already given us.

They all mattered.
And every person who donated, transported, fostered, shared a post, opened their home, answered a message, made a connection, or simply cheered us on…YOU mattered, too.
