We must share the sad news of the passing of one of our great friends and supporters. Natalia Zunino passed away on December 24, 2025. We have been waiting to make a post in the hopes that there may also be an obituary to share, but it doesn’t look like there will be a public notice.
We met Natalia in 2004 when we started working at a farm in Sharon, CT, where Natalia kept her horse, Phoenix. It was a rocky start for us at that farm, and as we settled in, Natalia proved to be a quiet and steady support for us. This support held true for our entire 21 year relationship. We forged not just a great working rapport with Natalia, but that blossomed into a long lasting friendship.
Natalia was a force of nature. She was incredibly intelligent and successful as a psychologist. She was small in stature but strong in spirit and will. She had a quiet way about her, but a stubborn streak a mile long. Natalia knew what she wanted. Her sense of humor was unexpected and fantastic. If we close our eyes, we can still hear her laugh. And what a firecracker she was. No jump was big enough, no gallop was fast enough. Natalia loved her horse fiercely.
In more recent years, after Natalia suffered some health complications that made riding Phoenix impossible, she asked us to take him. We considered that a compliment of the highest regard, that she would entrust Phoenix’s wellbeing and future to us. We gladly accepted, and we kept Phoenix until his death in February of 2023.
Many of you may remember when we brought Phoenix to see Natalia at her assisted living facility in 2022. It is one of our fondest and happiest memories. To see both Natalia and Phoenix recognize each other and connect that day is something we will never forget.
We are certain that Phoenix was waiting for Natalia when she passed, and have absolutely no doubt that the two of them are tearing around Heaven at obscene speeds, with Phoenix’s ears pricked and Natalia’s laughter echoing.
💐❤️ Natalia Zunino ❤️💐
