We have an active volunteer force that helps exercise and socialize shelter animals. Animal control officers respond to requests for assistance regarding animals in need and to concerns about animals that might be a threat to public safety.

These happy faces are ready for an adventure!

💙Today is our Tails on Trails sign-up event, and these are some of the amazing shelter dogs who are part of the program! Tails on Trails gives members of our community the chance to take a shelter dog out for some much-needed time away from the shelter — whether that means a walk, a hike, a trip to the park, or simply an afternoon exploring Anchorage.

💚Stop by today from 11 AM–2 PM, complete a quick orientation, and you could be heading out on an adventure with one of these pups! 🐕🌲

🦋Working in animal care, we dedicate so much of our lives to loving, protecting, and caring for animals. But behind every staff member is often a pet—or several—who helped inspire that love in the first place.

😇Today, for National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we’re sharing photos of some very special pets who once belonged to members of our team. Though they are no longer by our sides, the love, memories, and paw prints they left behind continue to be a part of who we are and the work we do every day.

🥰Losing a pet is never easy. They are family, best friends, adventure buddies, couch companions, and sometimes the reason we fall in love with helping animals in the first place.

🐾 Helping Pets Stay Where They Belong — At Home😇

💚One of the biggest reasons pets are surrendered to our shelter is financial hardship. Sometimes, a family loves their pet dearly but simply needs a little help getting through a difficult time.

💙That’s why our Community Pet Food Pantry is so important. The pantry provides free pet food to members of our community who need a helping hand, allowing us to support families while keeping pets in the homes of the people who love them.

💚But we can’t do it without you! Our pet food pantry is 100% supported by food donations from the public. Every bag, box, and can donated goes directly toward helping a local pet and their family.

💙When you donate pet food, you’re doing more than filling an empty bowl — you’re helping keep a family together. 🐶🐱

Remember those two puppies who mysteriously appeared in our play yard last week?

Well… they have names now. 😂

💙Meet Huck and Chuck, two handsome little dudes who had absolutely no say in their questionable arrival but have decided to make the best of it.

💚Their current life goals are pretty simple: get adopted, acquire snacks, cause mild puppy-related chaos, and never end up on the wrong side of a six-foot fence again.

💙Both Huck and Chuck are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption. All they need now is someone willing to provide a lifetime supply of love, adventures, and probably a suspicious number of toys.

🎾This adorable lady is Ladybug, and at 3 years old, she has officially mastered the art of catch!

💙Give her a tennis ball and she’s ready to play all day, although belly rubs are a very close second on her list of favorite things. Ladybug is outgoing, friendly, playful, and always ready to have some fun.
