Every patient has a story, and this one reminds us why we do what we do.
When Mary Jane first came to Better Health Animal Hospital, she faced multiple challenges affecting both her comfort and quality of life. As a bulldog, she was struggling with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), making every breath more difficult than it should be. She also had a severe corkscrew tail that had become deeply embedded, causing chronic irritation, inflammation, and discomfort.
Her journey included:
🐶 Comprehensive pre-operative testing and surgical planning
💚 BOAS surgery to improve her breathing
💚 Tail amputation to eliminate chronic pain and infection
🐾 Careful post-operative monitoring and recovery
Watching patients like Mary Jane heal is one of the most rewarding parts of veterinary medicine. These procedures aren’t just about surgery, they’re about giving dogs the opportunity to breathe easier, move comfortably, and enjoy a better quality of life.
A huge thank you to Chunkz & Tubz Bulldog Rescue and Mary Jane’s foster family for trusting Dr. Yoo and our team throughout every step of her care.
If your Bulldog, French Bulldog, Pug, or other brachycephalic breed shows signs such as:
• Loud or labored breathing
• Exercise intolerance
• Constant panting
• Chronic tail pocket infections
• Scooting, licking, or discomfort around the tail
Don’t assume it’s “just part of the breed.” Many of these conditions can be treated, dramatically improving your dog’s comfort and overall health.
