If ever there was a post that you should share multiple times, this is it.
We have made animal rescue way too convenient for everybody EXCEPT for the people actually doing the rescuing.
Your cat had kittens because nobody got her spayed?
“Call a rescue.”
Moving and aren't committed enough to take your pets?
“Call a rescue.”
Had a litter you didn’t plan for?
“Call a rescue.”
Found a dog?
“Call a rescue.”
And if the rescue says they’re full?
Suddenly the rescue is the as***le!!!???????
Somewhere along the way, “rescue” stopped meaning people helping animals in bad situations, and started meaning that rescues are an unlimited cleanup service for EVERYBODY ELSE'S IRRESPONSIBLE DECISIONS AND ACTIONS.
EXCEPT, RESCUE ISN'T UNLIMITED!
There is always limited money.
There is always limited space.
There are always limited fosters.
There are always limited hours in the day.
And very exhausted, unpaid, people on the other end of that phone.
Rescue absolutely does matter.
But so does personal responsibility before rescue becomes necessary.
There is NO GOOD REASON you could give, that excuses you, the owner or caretaker, for not spaying/neutering your pets.
If you can't afford to fix your pets, you can't afford to own them. And you shouldn't be feeding outdoor kitties unless you trap and fix them.
It is as simple as that! No excuses!
This is the conversation we need to be having.
The Bingham County Humane Society sells LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER VOUCHERS every Tuesday and Friday afternoons to Bingham County residents.
You can purchase as many as you need.
We sell them all the time.
It's the main part of our business plan.
Much of this post came from Helping Hands Rescue, but all of this post applies to anyone who owns or feeds cats or dogs.
