As we head into the holiday weekend, I want to take a moment to recognize my team.

I am incredibly proud of the people who come through the doors of Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital every day and give so much of themselves to our patients, our clients, and to each other.

Veterinary medicine is hard. The days can be long, emotional, physically exhausting, and sometimes just plain overwhelming. But even on the hard days, this team continues to show up and care. They comfort scared patients, support worried owners, help each other through the crazy days, and celebrate the wins together.

I see it every day. I see how much you care, and I see how much you give.

This weekend, we are closed so our team can step away, breathe, spend time with the people they love, do absolutely nothing if that's what they need, and come back rested and ready to care for your pets again.

To our clients: thank you for understanding that the people who care for your pets also need time to rest and recharge. Your patience, kindness, and understanding mean more than you may realize.

To my team: thank you. I am so proud to be your Practice Manager, and I want you to know how much you are appreciated.

We will be closed on Saturday, September 5th and Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day holiday weekend. We will reopen on Tuesday September 8th at 8am.

Sometimes being a veterinary team means going far beyond the walls of our hospital.

Vivy came to us as a walk-in emergency after ingesting a dangerous amount of a muscle relaxer. She was critically ill, and our team immediately jumped into action to stabilize her and get her the emergency care she needed.

We triaged Vivy, stabilized her as much as we could, and when it became clear that she needed continued care that we couldn't provide with the resources we had available, there was no hesitation. We knew that anything could happen in that 20-minute drive to the emergency hospital, and we couldn't take the risk of Vivy being transported without a medical team to monitor her vitals and provide lifesaving measures if necessary. We loaded Vivy into the car and headed to the emergency hospital, with her mom following closely behind.

We are incredibly proud of Dr. Moon and our entire MVAH team for the quick thinking, teamwork, and compassion they showed when Vivy needed them most. Dr. Moon stayed right by Vivy's side as she was transported for the next level of care. ❤️

The emergency team at SERV stepped up in a truly extraordinary way to help us help Vivy. Their level of dedication and teamwork means everything when a patient is fighting for her life.

Vivy required intensive emergency care, including a breathing tube and hours of manual ventilation. It was a long and scary road, but yesterday she went home healthy, happy, and back to being a puppy. 🐾

We are so proud of everyone who played a part in getting this little girl home to her family. Sometimes it takes a village, and we are incredibly thankful for the village that showed up for Vivy. ❤️

Here is Toti sporting a very stylish, rabit-friendly, elizabethan collar (e-collar) for her post-op exam with Dr. Kara. We absolutely LOVE that this protects her from causing damage to her incision AND frames her sweet face so beautifully with those summer colors. You go, girl!

Your cat carrier doesn't have to be boring but it does have to come with you when you go to the vet!

Bringing your cat in a carrier to the vet provides them a safe space while you transport them and bring them into the hospital. It also provides a safe space to observe the busy waiting room.

Leaving your cat's carrier out in a room that your cat frequents at home is a great way to get them used to the carrier and reduces the "carrier anxiety" they (and you) feel when getting ready for the vet. You can add their favorite blanket, toy, or even some snacks to carrier to help make it a fun place to hang out.

Look at this awesome carrier painted by one of our clients for her furry friend, Figgy! With a name like that, a regular carrier just would not do.
