The Bailing Out Benji Colorado team was out yesterday at Perfect Pets in Centennial creating awareness about the puppy mill to pet store connection. This is puppy buying season. Unfortunately, one puppy was purchased despite our best efforts. 🐶😞💔

Having our table has helped tremendously to make people feel more comfortable approaching us for information. Steve learned about the broker system. Another lady thanked Diane for us being out there to educate people. 🥧✨🐻💕😊👍💬😍🎉

A Mom and her two children asked for information. The 13-year-old daughter was "volunteering" in the store picking up p**p and doing odd jobs. I encouraged them to go to two animal sanctuaries instead of a pet store that promotes cruelty. ⌟⏰🌈🎈😊👏💖

At the end of our time, Lily from Texas and her friend, Reece, were heading into to pet puppies and stopped by the table. They were very surprised about what they learned about the pet store pipeline. ⌟👀🤮🤥💬🎉😍👏

Newspaper ads. The sign on the side of the road. TikTok. Your local store. That pretty website. Anywhere that a breeder can sell, a puppy mill or unscrupulous breeder will find a way to sell there too.
Bad breeders put profits above welfare and they sell puppies anywhere they can for a quick buck. But families can make a different choice, a humane choice, and can help us end puppy mills in the process!

How can a family buying a puppy help us end puppy mills?
Research before you buy.

Ask questions from the breeder's veterinarian.
Verify the breeder's history.

Get to know them in order to make sure your new family member is coming from a place of love not fear.

Not in the market for a puppy? Us either!

But the holidays are prime puppy-buying season and puppy mills know it! So we have to be ready to have conversations with the people in our lives about where to get a pet safely and humanely- even if they aren't choosing to adopt. ESPECIALLY when they aren't choosing to adopt!

Today, our Bailing Out Benji Colorado team (Kelsey Holman, Donna Marino, and Meg Lands) facilitated thought-provoking discussions at the Vegan Holiday Market at the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder. We talked to 123 people! We are making a difference! 🐕🐾💬🎄

The team's remarkable dedication and commitment are a source of inspiration. Many attendees thanked us for sharing information about our organization's work. The more people know the better choices they can make to avoid supporting a puppy mill. 🎉💖👏💕

We connected with a Journalism teacher at the University of Colorado Boulder, who invited me to speak to her class. I am eager to return to my alma mater, where I graduated with a Journalism degree in 1981. 🌟🎉👏💖🐾💕 🎊👏💫🎁🐾

Furthermore, a teacher at Summit Ridge Middle School, and friend of Donna Marino's, expressed interest in teaching her students about puppy mills. This presents a valuable opportunity to engage with young people and inspire positive change for dogs. 🐾💖🐶🎉💕🌟 Bailing Out Benji

Colorado pet stores are buying puppies from some of the worst puppy mills in the midwest. Our research has tracked and connected these purchases.

Nearly every single weekend you will find our volunteers sparking conversations in front of pet stores that sell puppies. Just two weeks ago Lauren from our Colorado team was able to get a customer to pause their purchase and do more research before they buy. The person had driven specifically to the store to get a yorkie, but Lauren was ready with our research and was able to have a conversation with this person about pet adoption and humane ways to get a puppy. No puppy was sold that day and even more people learned about puppy mills!
