There are definitely more updates to come! Out of respect, we will not be publicly identifying the individuals involved.
These two beautiful girls were produced by us a little over a year ago. On 6/15/2026, I received a voicemail from the Leesburg Humane Society. I had missed the call and remember wondering, “Why in the world is the Humane Society calling me?”
After a short conversation, we learned that these two sweet girls had been picked up and that the owners we believed loved them dearly were choosing to surrender them because they were allegedly “too much to handle.” We were then asked if we would be willing to take them back, and our answer was immediate:
“Absolutely, without a doubt.”
We waited for a call letting us know when we could pick them up, growing increasingly anxious. These girls had never experienced an environment like that before. Not that there is anything wrong with the shelter, but it was completely outside of what they had ever known. We called back to check on them and were informed that the previous owners had not yet officially signed them over. The staff was making repeated attempts to contact them, but calls were either unanswered or disconnected.
We even asked if we could bring the girls home that night and return the next day if necessary. Legally, that was not an option, which we completely understood and respected. It was then that we learned these girls had already been there for a week because the shelter had been unable to make contact with the previous owners.
This situation serves as a reminder that even when we do everything possible to place our puppies in what we believe are loving homes, circumstances can still change. We take great pride in our dogs and remain committed to them long after they leave our home. This was a first for us, and we hope we never have to experience it again.
Thankfully, we microchip all of our puppies and register them under our name before they leave. Because of that, our contact information remains available as an emergency contact if anything ever happens.
We are incredibly grateful that the staff chose to contact us directly. The previous owner claimed she had attempted to reach us and received no response, which was simply untrue. We were never contacted even once. A huge thank you to the staff at Leesburg Humane Society for trusting their instincts and reaching out themselves rather than simply taking that statement at face value.
Thankfully, we were able to bring both girls home the very next day and begin getting everything squared away. Dior was seen by the veterinarian yesterday, where she was spayed, updated on vaccines, and placed back on preventatives. She was in heat when she was found, and we were concerned she may have tied with a male dog while running loose is why we chose to get her spayed and taken care of first.
Cardi is scheduled for this coming Monday to have the same procedures completed, along with updated vaccines, preventatives, and cherry eye correction surgery. We had previously offered to cover the cost of Cardi’s cherry eye correction while she was still with her former owner, and unfortunately, as you can see, that offer was never taken. Honestly we simply assumed they were able to handle the cost themselves and thought nothing more of it at the time.
Both girls have a little weight to regain, some healing to do, and a whole lot of love to receive. We are gradually rebuilding their weight, confidence, and overall health. Their stomachs are also getting some extra support with probiotics as we work to get everything back on track.
One thing we always try to remind people is that puppies are not easy. They do not come fully trained, and every pet owner will face challenges along the way. Owning an animal means committing to them through the difficult moments, not just the easy ones. At the end of the day, they do not get to choose their homes—their homes are chosen for them.
We are beyond thankful that the microchips led these girls back to us and that we were given the opportunity to get them back where they belong. They are both incredibly sweet girls who simply need time, patience, love, and stability to settle back into a normal routine.
For those who curious, both girls already have homes lined up once they have made a full recovery. They will be placed with two close family friends whom we know personally, and it has been made very clear that if circumstances ever change, these girls come back to us.
For now, they are safe, loved, and on the road to recovery—and that’s all that matters.
