Black Cat Appreciation Day was on August 17th, but The PETS Clinic of Amarillo wants to celebrate longer because one day is not enough for these amazing creatures!

Why this day matters -

-Black cats often get overlooked due to old fears linked to magic and bad luck.
- Black cats face lower adoption rates and higher Euthanasia rates due to the stigma around them.
- BUT many cultures actually view black cats as symbols of prosperity, joy and good fortune.

E-collars, also known as the infamous “cone of shame,” aren’t always a perfect fit, especially for our tiniest patients!

This clever little kitty figured out exactly how to get the cone off every time, so our technicians found a creative solution: the “bowl of shame.” Sometimes a little improvising is all it takes to help keep a spay or neuter incision protected while it heals.

Preventing pets from licking or chewing their incision is an important part of recovery and can help reduce the risk of irritation, infection, or the incision opening.

Meet Shelby!

You may recognize Shelby from the front desk, checking you in or out for your appointment, or helping your pet receive the preventative care they need.

Shelby moved to Amarillo in 2019 and joined the PETS Clinic team in 2023. Animals have always been her passion, and since joining the clinic, she has developed an even deeper passion for the PETS mission: Preventing Euthanasia Through Sterilization.

"The number of pets without homes because of overpopulation breaks my heart. I'm proud to be part of a mission that works every day to make a difference."

Mr. Pickles is proudly showing off his brand new designer tattoo from PETS Clinic.

When a dog or cat is spayed or neutered, they receive a small green tattoo near the surgical site. This tiny tattoo lets veterinary professionals know your pet has already been sterilized.

That simple green mark can prevent unnecessary exploratory surgery and, in some cases, help avoid sedation to determine whether a pet has already been spayed or neutered.

It's a small tattoo with a big purpose, helping keep pets safer while making veterinary care a little easier. Thank you, Mr. Pickles, for modeling your new ink so well!

Hi, I'm Major!

Ever wonder how I got my name? Because I'm a MAJOR big deal, of course!

My visit to PETS Clinic of Amarillo was a breeze thanks to their fear free approach. From calming pheromone diffusers to plenty of tasty treats (the cheese is my favorite!), the team works hard to make every visit as stress free as possible.

I'd definitely recommend PETS Clinic of Amarillo for the fear free care... and the cheese!

Meet Liddle! ❤️

Liddle came to the PETS Clinic of Amarillo for what was expected to be a routine spay. During surgery, our veterinary team discovered she had pyometra, a serious infection of the uterus that can quickly become life threatening if left untreated.

The surprising part? Some pets with pyometra show obvious signs of illness, while others, like Liddle, may appear completely normal until the condition is discovered.

Thankfully, Liddle was already in the right place. Removing the uterus during her spay also removed the infection, giving her the treatment she needed. Spaying your pet not only prevents unwanted litters, it also essentially eliminates the risk of developing pyometra in the future.
