It’s been a tough couple of weeks for TCE as we’ve said goodbye to a few of our clients much sooner than we thought we would.

Today, it was Hatch McWhorter, who developed cancer in one of his hind legs which masqueraded as a sprain and once it was known that it was actually cancer, it had already taken over his lungs. He was one of our happiest guys and could be around any dog—big or small, hyper or docile, young and old alike. He loved seeing his friends, going on adventures and most of all, his family. We love you, Hatch. We always will. Our hearts, hugs and prayers are with you and your family, Bekah.

Chief D’Amico was one our walking clients. He and his sister, Lexie have been a part of our crew for nearly 2 years and at just four years of age, we thought we’d have many more with him. He suffered the sudden loss of control over his back legs yesterday and his health declined rapidly from there. It’s a rare occurrence but Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are apparently susceptible to it.

Sweet Chief. Gentle (besides when you got going too fast and you couldn’t stop in time) Giant. Always looking out for your people. Always the dog everyone stopped me to ask about. Always goofy and golden-hearted. It certainly wasn’t supposed to end this soon in this way. But now that you’re on the other side, you can eat whatever you want without getting sick, and you won’t have to worry about knocking people over just because you’re bigger than you think.

Charles and Colleen, thank you for hiring me to walk him over the last two years. He was such a joy, but I don’t have to tell y’all that. I feel for yall, unable to be here with him to say goodbye and for Lexie, who is probably pretty confused about where he went. TCE will continue to love on her and make her walks worthwhile.

Man have we been busy! And we are so appreciative of that. But we’ve definitely been slacking on highlighting all the wonderful pups we get to take care of, walk and love on—both new clients and existing. We especially feel the importance of honoring our clients who are no longer with us. So in no particular order, we are leading off with Captain Zapata.

His mom, Michelle, reached out to Lylli and I on March 5 that he’d gone to doggy heaven the day before. He was one of the best dogs we ever got to meet. Endlessly patient with his little siblings, silly and playful, steady and loving. His memory deserves to be honored with the rest of our beloved fur-friends who are no longer with us.

Michelle, thank you for giving us the privilege of knowing Captain. He will forever be cherished in our hearts.

We made a HUGE blunder by forgetting to shout, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHELBY!!!” from the rooftops on Wednesday so now we are shouting, “HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, SHELBY!!!” instead!

We are so lucky to have your help for many reasons including the fact that you are already so busy with all your patients and buddies at P.E.T.S. Clinic on 6th street! (Also, if you don’t know about P.E.T.S. clinic on 6th, check it out!) And then of course, there’s your own crew of critters, the fosters you take in to help out the rescue organizations in the community and whatever’s left for your personal life! So truly, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Shelby!
