Here’s a vulnerable post about a horse that, honestly, we weren’t sure if we were ever going to figure him out.
We bought this gelding a little over a year ago. When he came to us, he was a little underweight and seemed to naturally be a fairly nervous horse. We put the weight on him, got him riding the way we wanted, and thought we had everything under control.
Then, suddenly, he started dropping weight and we could NOT keep it on him.
He also became extremely nervous hauling. He seemed uncomfortable riding at home, and away from home it was like he could crawl out of his skin. Something just wasn’t right.
We had him scoped, started ulcer treatment, and thought we had it handled. Then the ulcers came back. So we treated again. And they came back AGAIN. We treated a third time, and thankfully, that time we finally saw results.
Between the vet bills, multiple rounds of ulcer treatment, and all of the different supplements people told us we needed, we had spent thousands trying to figure this horse out.
Then a good friend pointed me in the direction of something that actually made a difference for him.
That was when we started using Bluebonnet.
I’m not saying this is a magic fix or that every horse is going to have the same experience. But for THIS horse, it has been a game changer. Not only did we finally get him back on track, but it’s something we can continue using daily to support his gut health.
I honestly just wish I had found it sooner.
Today, this guy hauls great, can focus on the task at hand, and maintains his weight consistently. And, most importantly, he feels like himself again.
If you’re dealing with a horse that sounds anything like this, I’m happy to share what worked for us and what we learned along the way. Because if we hadn’t found something that worked, I’m honestly not sure we would still own this horse.
Sometimes the answer isn’t the newest or most complicated thing, it’s just finding the right thing for that horse.
