We’re sharing an important update from our friends at Animal Emergency Center in Collinsville regarding how they are currently handling veterinary emergencies.

If your pet experiences an emergency outside of our regular business hours, please take a moment to read their update so you know what to expect and can be prepared if the need arises. ❤️

Emergency situations are stressful enough without wondering where to go or what to do. Having a plan before an emergency happens can make all the difference.

🥓 POV: You came to the vet asking for bacon…

Sorry, little one. 😂 Around here, we have standards. 💅🐾

Our pups are treated to the *finest* selection of peanut butter 🥜 and cheese 🧀 treats! Because apparently, bacon is “not on the menu.” 🙄

The betrayal.
The disappointment.
The audacity. 😂🐶

But don’t worry… those peanut butter and cheese treats seem to make up for it pretty quickly. 💕🐾

😂 When your parents said, “You’ll never find anyone who looks just like you…”

And then you meet your long-lost sibling…
who happens to be a completely different species. 🐶🐱

Same black & white markings.
Same serious facial expression.
Same “I’m not impressed” attitude. 😂

The family resemblance is undeniable.
The DNA test, however, is going to be very interesting. 🧬🤣

One says woof. 🐶
One says meow. 🐱

☀️🐾 HEAT WARNING: Keep Your Pets Safe, Alton!🐾☀️

With temperatures climbing toward 100°F and high heat continuing throughout the week, please take a few extra precautions to keep your furry family members safe. ❤️

🐾 Skip the midday walks. Stick to early morning or later evening when temperatures are cooler.

🐾 Protect those paws! If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s feet. Remember—the ground can be significantly hotter than the air.

🐾 Fresh water is a must. Make sure your pet has plenty of cool, clean water available at all times.

🐾 Provide shade AND airflow. A shaded backyard can still become dangerously hot.

🐾 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle. Not even for a few minutes. Not even with the windows cracked. 🚗❌

🐾 Know the warning signs: excessive panting, heavy drooling, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, stumbling, bright red or pale gums, or collapse can all be signs of heat illness.

🚨 THINK YOUR PET MAY BE HAVING A HEAT-RELATED EMERGENCY? 🚨

Act quickly. Move your pet into a cool, air-conditioned area immediately. Begin cooling them with cool (not ice-cold) water and airflow while you contact us. Avoid wrapping them in wet towels, which can trap heat against the body.

Even if your pet seems to improve, heatstroke can cause serious internal damage that isn't immediately obvious. Veterinary care is important. ❤️🐾

If your pet is unconscious, collapsing, having difficulty breathing, or showing severe signs of heatstroke, this is an emergency — seek veterinary care immediately.

❤️ Our pets depend on us to recognize when the heat is too much. So today, choose the couch, the air conditioning and a little extra cuddle time. 🐶🐱💕

Stay cool, stay safe, and give those paws a break!

🐾💕 A Family Affair at Alton Animal Clinic! 💕🐾

Today we had the sweetest little duo visit us!

Becca, our adorable Boxer mix, came in for her last round of vaccines—look at her being such a good girl! 💉🐶👏

And then there’s little Peanut, the tiniest Chihuahua, who came in for her very first puppy visit! Talk about starting life off on the right paw! 🥹

But the sweetest part? These two are family! 🥰 Peanut belongs to Becca’s owner’s mom, so this visit was a little bit of a family affair. 💗

We love getting to care for generations of pets within the same family. Thank you for trusting us with your precious pups, Becca and Peanut! 🐶🐾💕

🧡 Friday Feelings 🐱

Sometimes a tiny kitten needs someone to believe in him before he can believe in himself. 🥹🐾

Meet little Gordon Pratt. When Gordon was just 2–3 weeks old, his dad found him alone and crying at his construction site. He was tiny, vulnerable, and much too young to care for himself.

Taking on a kitten that young is no small commitment. ❤️ It means round-the-clock care, frequent bottle feedings, keeping him warm, helping him with the things his mama normally would, monitoring his weight and development, and making sure he’s getting enough nutrition to grow.

At that age, kittens are still learning how to do almost everything. They need someone to step in as their mom would—providing warmth, nourishment, comfort, cleanliness, and lots and lots of patience. 🍼🐱

And Gordon’s dad did just that.

He didn’t just rescue a kitten from a construction site… he committed to raising him.❤️

And look at this little guy now! 😍

Gordon is thriving, and seeing a once-tiny, crying kitten grow into this happy, healthy little guy is exactly the kind of story that gives us all the Friday feels. ( Just look at him chewing on his dad's fingers. 😍)

It takes dedication to raise a baby this tiny. It takes patience. It takes sleepless nights and a whole lot of love.

But sometimes, all that hard work results in something pretty amazing. 🥰

Just look at Gordon!
From a tiny lost kitten who needed someone… to a completely loved little guy who has found his person. 🧡🐾

Meet Mabel! 🐾💕

This mini Aussie came in for her exam and quickly discovered that our team accepts payment in the form of… TRICKS FOR TREATS! 😂🦴

Mabel was happy to show off her skills in exchange for a few tasty rewards—and honestly, we were happy to keep the treats coming! 🥰

We think every vet visit should include a little fun, a lot of love, and maybe a few snacks along the way. ❤️🐶
