Yesterday was a very sad day at the barn as we laid our beloved mare Ellie Mae to rest.
Ellie Mae came to the barn over a decade ago. There was a point when Ellie was lame, and her owner, Tiffany, was told her only option was to put her down. Tiffany didn't want to give up on Ellie and reached out to Victoria Acres. Tiffany thought Victoria Acres might be a great step down for Ellie and was hoping that, with the proper care, Ellie could become sound and have the possibility of becoming a therapy horse.
Ellie then came in for a trial to evaluate not only her physical issues but also to get Ellie's opinion on being a therapy horse. Anyone who ever knew Ellie knows she had opinions. Needless to say, Ellie was able to overcome all of her physical limitations and enjoyed being a therapy horse. Ellie loved every rider she ever met. Whether she was teaching able-bodied riders or our therapeutic riders, Ellie was always a rockstar!
Ellie, thank you for your dedication to our programs and to our riders. You taught so many riders in your career at Victoria Acres and changed their lives forever.
Rest in peace, sweet mare; your job on earth is done.
Until we meet again....❤
