🌸 What Stitch Taught Me… Confessions of a Vet Mom

Does balancing a toddler and pets ever stress you out?

Because… same. 😂 You are definitely not alone.

My son is active, curious, and very rambunctious, and while our pets are an important part of our family, keeping everyone safe takes some intention.

Here are a few things we do in our house:

🐾 We teach him that cats and dogs have different boundaries.
Cats tend to need a little more space and gentler interactions, so we work on being calm and respectful around them.

🐶 He only plays with one or two dogs at a time.
When multiple dogs get excited together, that energy can escalate quickly. Even dogs who normally get along can have a disagreement when excitement levels get high.

👀 We never leave him alone with the dogs.
Not because I don't trust our dogs—but because they're animals, he's a toddler, and neither one can be expected to understand every situation perfectly. Supervision is our responsibility.

🧠 We pay attention to body language.
We're teaching him that if a pet walks away, seems uncomfortable, or doesn't want to interact, we respect that.

It's about knowing your pets, knowing your child, setting everyone up for success, and stepping in before a situation gets out of hand.

Because our pets can't always tell us when they've had enough, and toddlers are still learning how to listen.

Give your pets some extra love tonight—and I’ll see you in the next one.

Some cats have stripes.
Some have spots.

And some apparently wake up and choose lemur. 😂🐒

This handsome guy is Kerby Joseph—yes, he’s named after the football player! 🏈

We’re not sure if he’s here to tackle the competition or head back to the rainforest… but either way, those markings are definitely MVP-worthy. 🏆

Come celebrate the end of summer with us, as we join the city of Milton and our friends at Countryside Pet Estates at a pup-tastic pooly paw-ty! 🐾☀️

We will be there with giveaways, fun activities, and a first aid tent staffed by Dr. Stephens and the Lotus Animal Hospital team.

If any minor injuries or concerns pop up during the event, we’re here to help with basic first aid and quick assessments. Pets needing more advanced care will be directed to the appropriate next step.

Come say hi, grab some goodies, and let your pups make a splash 💦

We asked some of our patients why they love us… and this is what they had to say 😂

From snacks to snuggles to “I barely noticed I was at the vet”… we’ll take it!

If your pet agrees, we’d love your vote for Best Vet in Georgia 🌸

🌸 What Stitch Taught Me… Confessions of a Vet Mom

My first dog as an adult was reactive… and I had no idea what I was doing.

Stitch didn’t come to me perfectly trained or easy. He came with fear, uncertainty, and a need for patience. And honestly? So did I.

We learned together.

Training him was about understanding him, building trust, and showing up consistently, even when progress felt slow.

There were resets. There were hard days. But there were also so many small wins that added up over time.

He shaped not only the kind of dog owner I am… but the kind of veterinarian I am too.

So if you have a dog that’s reactive, nervous, or just not “easy”—you’re not doing it wrong.

You’re learning each other.

Hang in there and know you're not alone. There are so many resources available and we are here to help!

Give your pets some extra love tonight—and I’ll see you in the next one 🤍

Have you met Jazmyne yet? 💕
One of our amazing veterinary assistants… and currently mastering Japanese

Sometimes she forgets she’s at work—but honestly, we support it 😂
Meanwhile, our patients are like… “ma’am???” 🐶
Practice makes perfect, right?

🌸 What Stitch Taught Me… Confessions of a Vet Mom

One of the hardest parts about being a veterinarian…
Is that our patients can’t tell us what’s wrong.

So we’re constantly piecing things together—what we see, what tests show, and what families notice at home.

And those pieces families bring? They matter more than you think.

Because you know what’s normal for your pet.

At home, a lot of what looks like everyday moments with my pets, is actually me checking on their health.

Belly rubs turn into lump and bump checks.
Face smooshes are quick looks at teeth and ears.
“Give paw” is really me checking their nails.
And running around outside? I’m watching how they move.

Not in a stressful way—just as part of our routine.

Because our pets can’t tell us when something feels off. So the more we notice the small things, the easier it is to catch changes early.
