Summer means more opportunities for adventure—and occasionally, more opportunities for injury.

While some limps resolve with rest, others may be the result of fractures or orthopedic injuries that require specialized treatment.

At VSGA, our team includes two board-certified veterinary surgeons with advanced training and experience in procedures like fracture repair. This specialized care can help stabilize broken bones, support proper healing, and give pets the best chance at restored mobility after traumatic injuries.

If your pet has experienced a fall, been struck by a vehicle, or suffered another traumatic injury, don’t ignore persistent limping, swelling, or signs of pain.

When it comes to fractures, getting the right diagnosis and treatment plan early can make all the difference.

A sweet face to brighten your day.

Meet Sy. 💙

Sy recently visited our team, and we couldn't help but share this sweet photo. We think he's pretty photogenic, but we'll let you be the judge.

Leave some love for Sy in the comments!

If your dog wakes up squinting, pawing at an eye, or suddenly develops redness, it's natural to hope it's just irritation.

The challenge is that many serious eye conditions can look deceptively minor in the beginning.

A scratched cornea, glaucoma, or an eye ulcer may initially present with only subtle signs, but delaying treatment can sometimes mean the difference between preserving vision and permanent damage.

At VSGA, our 24/7 ER team and board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist are experienced in diagnosing and treating urgent eye conditions. This level of specialty care can provide support beyond what may be available through a primary care veterinarian alone.

In fact, we're your primary care veterinarian's partner in your pet's care when a specialist's expertise is needed for a particular condition.

When it comes to eye problems, waiting to see if it improves isn't always the safest option.

When diarrhea lingers or starts getting worse, it can sometimes point to something more serious underneath.

Princess Buttercup came to our team after experiencing diarrhea that had been ongoing for several weeks and worsening over the last few days. An ultrasound revealed a foreign body along with enlarged lymph nodes near the area of concern.

During surgery, a sizeable hairball was found trapped where the small intestine meets the large intestine. Fortunately, biopsies showed inflammation related to the obstruction rather than something more concerning, and Princess Buttercup is now recovering nicely. 💜

Cases like this are an important reminder that persistent gastrointestinal signs should not be ignored, especially when symptoms continue or worsen over time. Early diagnostics can make a significant difference in helping pets feel better sooner.

And yes… she is just as adorable in person as she looks. 🐾

When an emergency happens, stress levels are high and decisions often need to be made quickly.

One simple way to prepare is by keeping a folder—digital or physical—with your pet's important information, including:
• Current medications
• Vaccine records
• Primary care veterinarian information
• Emergency contacts
• Previous medical conditions or surgeries
• Pet insurance information

Having this information readily available can help veterinary teams better understand your pet's history and focus on what matters most: getting them the care they need.

Many primary care veterinarians now offer apps or online portals that make it easy to access important information like vaccine records, medications, and appointment history. If your veterinarian offers one, consider downloading it and becoming familiar with its features before an emergency occurs. Having quick access to your pet's information can save valuable time when it matters most.

A few weeks ago, we shared that Dr. Tom Walker was being honored at the NYC Second Chance Rescue 2026 Rescue Ball — and now we finally get to share a few photos from the evening. 💙🐾

It was a special night celebrating the people and organizations working to give rescue animals the care, support, and second chances they deserve.

Congratulations again to Dr. Walker on this incredibly well-deserved recognition. We’re proud to have him as part of the VSGA team and grateful for the compassion he brings to pets, families, and the veterinary community every day.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the men, women, and working dogs who have served our country with courage and dedication.

We are grateful for the sacrifices made in service to others—both human and canine—and remember those whose service will never be forgotten.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Pancreatitis is something we see more often than people realize.

It doesn’t always start with an obvious emergency.

Sometimes it’s just:
‘They didn’t eat breakfast.’
‘They’re a little quieter than usual.’

But as pancreatitis progresses, pets can develop vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, and dehydration—and they can become very sick, very quickly.

The earlier we step in, the more we can do to support them.
