⚠️☠️ March Is Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month!
Curious pets explore the world with their noses—and sometimes their mouths. Unfortunately, many everyday household items and foods that are safe for people can be dangerous (or even life-threatening) for dogs and cats.
Some of the most common pet toxins include:
• Chocolate – contains theobromine, which pets cannot safely metabolize
• Grapes & raisins – can cause sudden kidney failure in dogs
• Xylitol (a sugar substitute in gum, candy, and some peanut butters) – can trigger dangerously low blood sugar and liver failure
• Human medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen
• Household plants like lilies (toxic to cats) and sago palms
• Cleaning products and chemicals
Signs of poisoning may include: vomiting, drooling, lethargy, tremors, seizures, loss of balance, or unusual behavior.
