๐ Lily Deserves More Than Another Goodbye ๐
We have been a little quiet the last few days because we knew Lily was going to have to spend two days in boarding before Michelle generously drove to Connecticut to care for Lily while Lily's mom was out of town.
We were understandably worried that Lily might feel a little lost, especially during her time in boarding. After everything she has been through and all the changes she has experienced, we never stop worrying about how those transitions affect her emotionally.
But Lily once again reminded us that she is so much more than the labels people sometimes focus on.
Lily spent two days at a boarding facility and did wonderfully. She happily accepted treats, allowed pets from staff, and did well with both the male and female caregivers she met there. Even better, Lily had not seen Michelle in several months, but she immediately recognized her, was thrilled to see her, and quickly settled back into the relationship they had built before.
Michelle is currently staying with Lily in her current home, and Lily is doing very well.
Lily's situation has not changed.
While we are incredibly grateful for Michelle's help, she is simply caring for Lily while Lily's mom is out of town. When Lily's mom returns on Sunday, Lily will still be in need of a new home, and time will once again be working against her.
In true Lily fashion, she is already back to being Michelle's shadowโfollowing her from room to room, rolling over for belly rubs, snuggling close, and wanting to be wherever Michelle is.
Lily bonds very deeply with her people, which is one of the things that makes her so special. It is also why we believe she needs someone who understands that trust takes time and who is willing to help her work through her anxiety surrounding new people entering the home.
When you look at everything Lily has been through, it is honestly no surprise that she worries about being left behind or having to leave again. She has been bounced around far more than any dog should be.
What Lily needs now is stabilityโsomeone who will give her the time, patience, consistency, and reassurance she needs to finally feel secure. Someone who is willing to make a long-term commitment to her, and will show her that this time, she gets to stay.
We believe Lily's ideal home would be an adult-only household with a predictable routine. Someone who is retired, works from home, or is home more often than not would give her the best opportunity to settle in and succeed long-term.
Lily has experienced more upheaval and change than any dog should. Quite simply, Lily cannot afford another heartbreak.
For those who may be new to Lily's story, Lily is an 8-year-old, 79-pound deaf girl looking for a committed, pet-free home. She is housebroken, not destructive, loves car rides, loves to cuddle, knows sign language cues and hand signals, and is incredibly devoted to the people she loves.
Lily does have separation anxiety and can become vocal when she feels anxious or uncertain. Because of that, we believe she would do best with someone who can help her continue building confidence and feel secure in her surroundings.
The good news is that trainer and rescuer Jeff, whom we trust completely, remains very optimistic about Lily's future and believes she can thrive in the right home with true commitment. Jeff has offered to work directly with Lily's future adopter, and Road to Home Rescue will cover that support.
Lily is also part of our Forever Foster Program, meaning approved medical expenses beyond routine wellness care will be covered by the rescue for the rest of her life.
We will post a link to Lily's original story in the comments for anyone who may have missed it.
If you've been following Lily, rooting for Lily, or sharing Lily, please continue. We still believe Lily's person is out there somewhere.
But Lily needs that person sooner rather than later.
