It's that time of year again when upper respiratory illnesses become more common in the canine community. While we require all Campers to be up to date on their Bordetella vaccination, it is important to remember that no vaccine is 100% effective.
We have been notified of several cases in the area and have recently learned of three confirmed cases involving Campers who attended our facility last week. Upper respiratory infections are highly contagious and can spread through the air, making environments where dogs socialize particularly susceptible.
One challenge with these infections is that symptoms do not appear immediately. Dogs may be contagious before showing signs of illness, with symptoms typically developing within 3 to 10 days after exposure.
We believe in being transparent with our Camp families so you can make the best decision for your pet. If you are uncomfortable bringing your dog to Camp at this time, we completely understand and support your decision.
Please know that we have enhanced our cleaning and sanitation protocols and are taking every precaution possible to help minimize the spread of illness within our facility.
Please monitor your dog for the following symptoms:
-Loud, honking cough
-Nasal discharge
-Loss of appetite
-Lethargy
-Watery eyes
-Reverse sneezing
If your dog develops any of these symptoms, please keep them isolated from other dogs and contact your veterinarian promptly. Early intervention can help prevent the illness from progressing into pneumonia or other more serious conditions.
For the safety of all Campers, any dog showing symptoms upon arrival will not be permitted to attend Camp. If symptoms develop during their stay, owners will be contacted and required to pick up their dog immediately. Before returning, we will require written clearance from your veterinarian confirming your dog is healthy and no longer contagious.
We also recognize that many of our Campers visit other facilities, dog parks, and social environments. While these can be great opportunities for exercise and enrichment, it is important to remember that vaccination and health histories of other dogs may be unknown. We encourage everyone to use caution and remain mindful of potential exposure risks.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates if additional information becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support of our small business. We truly appreciate the trust you place in us to care for your beloved pets.🐾
