TRAP RENTAL program.
NNN has been operating since 2008. It has been our policy to provide loaner traps to our clients who want to do TNR and not have to buy a trap. Since we do not accept feral cats in carriers, it makes sense to make the process easier by offering a rental program. The rental fee is $25 (which hasn’t changed since 2008) and is refundable when the trap is returned in working condition and clean. When we started, our trap inventory at all clinics was around 30. That’s $75 x 30. Each clinic. Do the math. Traps break. The trip plate stops working. The latch doesn’t hold. People break the door trying to open the trap. So they have to be replaced.
Our contract allows a client to pick up a trap 1 week prior to appointment to trap train and should be returned 1 week after surgery. Cause we do not encourage a cat staying in a trap longer than 48 hours unless our vets state otherwise. We will extend the contract with a return date if a client has appointments set up in our system. We do not loan traps out for months or years. That is unfair to others who need to use them. If you have a large colony and will be trapping over an extended period of time, it would make sense to buy your own. We want the trap back, clean and in working condition and if you bring it back that way, you will get your deposit back which is $25. This rental fee does not cover the replacement cost of a good trap.
Our inventory currently in Reading is around 10 and it doesn’t matter how many calls we make (registered letters cost NNN money), they haven’t come back. So right now, we are not budgeting for more traps at our Reading clinic due to the lack of courtesy we have experienced over the years. If anyone would like to donate traps or make a donation to buy more for the Reading clinic that would be appreciated.
We like HavaHart traps - size large (size for cats, raccoons groundhogs). Cost averages around $75 per trap. We do not use Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply traps.
You can make a donation through our website www.nnnlv.org or drop one off at the Reading clinic.
