🩺Caring for Heat Stroke in Dogs and Cats by the American Red Cross.

🔥Heat stroke is a serious and potentially fatal condition that can occur when a pet's body temperature rises dangerously high. It's crucial to recognize the signs and act quickly.

🐈‍⬛ 🐕SYMPTOMS of HEAT STROKE IN DOGS AND CATS. 🐕 🐈‍⬛

Look for signs such as excessive panting or rapid breathing, drooling, lethargy, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, bright red or pale gums, increased heart rate, collapse, or seizures.

‼️Here are some immediate actions to take if you suspect heat stroke:

✅️Move to a cool area: Get your pet into a cool, shaded place or air-conditioned room.

✅️Cool your pet: Wet their fur with cool (not cold/no ice) water focusing on areas like the belly, paw pads, and ears. Cool, wet towels on these areas can also help.

✅️Use a fan: If possible, use a fan to increase airflow and aid in cooling.
Offer water: Provide small amounts of cool water to drink.

‼️SEEK VETERINARY CARE IMMEDIATELY.: Even if your pet seems to be recovering, take them to the vet as soon as possible.

‼️Important Reminders:
AVOID ICE AND VERY COLD WATER!! This can constrict blood vessels and hinder cooling, potentially causing shock.

‼️Don't delay transport to the vet: Prioritize getting your pet to the nearest veterinary hospital while starting cooling measures.

Monitor temperature: If you have a re**al thermometer, monitor their temperature. Normal temperature is 101°F to 102.5°F, and a temperature above 104°F indicates danger.

🔻Veterinary Care:
A veterinarian will work to safely lower your pet's temperature, administer IV fluids for hydration and organ support, and potentially provide oxygen therapy and medications. They will also monitor for complications like organ damage.

🔻Remember: Early recognition and immediate action are crucial.
Always seek veterinary care if you suspect heat stroke. The American Red Cross offers more information.

Preventing Heat Stroke:

Preventative measures include ensuring access to fresh water and shade, avoiding exercise during the hottest parts of the day, and never leaving pets in parked cars. Be aware of breed predispositions and consider cooling products.
