It’s been a long week (spent in the couch) since her surgery. She had a post op appointment this past week. Along with her pyometra she had a UTI. The UTI was still causing some issues so we doubled up her antibiotics for dual coverage. Her incision looks great(laser after surgery) and she has had no issues wearing her surgical suit. She is back to eating normally and wants so badly to go off the back deck with the rest of the pack which isn’t allowed for 3 weeks😳 Sadly this turmoil and emotional ups and downs are all part of breeding. I could definitely do with out the “downs” but I truly love breeding. My spirit gets filled from nurturing pregnant mamas and giving puppies the best possible start in life that I can. Now that my emotions are balancing out from the past 2 weeks , plans for breeding and litters for 2027 are in the works🩷

We saw good improvement today🩷 She finally pooped , lots of tail wags, her special “kisses” to mom(she boops her nose to mine), and she just ate kibble with bone broth for dinner🥰

It’s been a long 48 hours since surgery with some slow steps forward to healing.
✅ her incision looks great
✅ drinking a little water by herself
✅ little bites of peanut butter, bacon and steak treats
✅ pain under control
✅ up and walking by herself and when asked
✅✅✅ wagging her tail at Greta this morning

We are still battling a low temp so she sleeps with a heated blanket. Also not eating quite enough(per mom’s standard) so she’s getting beef broth and baby food syringe fed to her.

This is definitely not the post I wanted to write. This past week has been exhausting and emotional. What we thought were pregnancy symptoms at the beginning of the week ended up in some devastating outcomes. It started with Anya not being interested in eating and puking (morning sickness/pregnancy symptoms). By Thursday she was refusing food, diarrhea, excessive drinking and urinating, and lethargy. After a morning appointment Friday , she was diagnosed with pyometra. Pyometra is a severe, life-threatening uterine infection that happens due to normal hormone changes and bacterial invasion after female dogs heat cycle. This typically happens 2 to 8 weeks after a heat cycle when high progesterone levels, thicken the uterine lining and allow bacteria from the va**na to enter and multiply quickly in the uterus. Anya’s uterus was full of bacteria/pus. Any eggs that were fertilized during breeding could not implant in Anya’s infected uterus, and were either reabsorbed or killed by the bacteria. The only option that would save for life was a spay which is where they remove the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.  She had surgery yesterday afternoon, and I was able to bring her home to recover late last night. She finally took some drinks of water on her own and a few licks of peanut butter this morning. Please send your positive vibes for her recovery in hopes of not having to bring her back due to complications.

Wag, Wiggle, Wait and See - a new puppy fact each week from me!!

Anya is 3 weeks post ovulation and first tie.
*Once an egg is fertilized, a puppy fetus starts emerging as a cluster of 4 cells. Those 4 cells quickly multiplies to 64 cells as it starts to get ready to form a head and spine.
* As the fertilized egg is now implanting in the uterine horns, hormones are changing. This can cause females to be more clingy and decreased appetite/morning sickness.

Week by week, take a peek - puppy facts that are sweet and unique🩷

Anya is 2 weeks post ovulation/breeding.
* Canine pregnancy divides into 3 stages (like a humans 3 trimesters) with each one lasting 21 days.
*dog embryos are growing (currently about 1 cm) and preparing to move into the uterus where they implant around day 16.
* Likely not noticing and physical changes yet, though some dogs experience clingy behavior. Anya has been super affectionate with her humans lately🥰

Anya ovulated last week and had a TCI and multiple ties with Maverick. We won’t know if she is pregnant for 3 more weeks but I thought it would be fun to share dog pregnancy facts with you each week😁 If she is pregnant she would be 1 week along.
* Dogs are pregnant for 63 days (9 weeks)
*Once eggs are fertilized they don’t actually implant until week 3 or 4. They are just in there floating around.
*Besides being a picky eater, due to hormones, the female doesn’t show any physical symptoms of being pregnant.
