September is Puppy Mill Awareness Month

How do you know you are buying from a puppy mill?

They use the term “USDA breeder” to show they are licensed. Dogs are considered livestock under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This form of licensing is required for puppy mills to sell directly to pet stores or consumers over the internet when they have five or more female dogs they are breeding. Promoting USDA licensing for a breeding operation is a telltale sign of a puppy mill, as the USDA has notoriously weak inspection policies. Don’t buy a puppy if you can’t see the momma dog and living conditions where the mom and puppies are kept.

Please consider adopting a cat in need of a home. Special event in Lima!

Cat Adopt-A-Thon
Ohio SPCA: This Wednesday, November 4th at 4p.m. the adoption center located in Lima will re-open to the public for serious inquiries for cat adoptions only. Meeting and adopting dogs will still be done by appointment. Adoptions can be approved quickly if information is all brought with you such as lease agreements/landlords info and veterinarian records.

PLEASE READ: Masks are required to enter. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing one please call and schedule an appointment. We will be allowing 2 per party (family) to enter. Maximum of 15 people will be allowed in the building at once. If we have reached maximum capacity, we will ask that you wait in your vehicle until a party has left. Guidelines will also be posted on entry doors.

Here at the Ohio SPCA we are taking social distancing very seriously in protecting our staff, volunteers, and of course the many animals we care for each and everyday.

We thank everyone who has been patient and who have supported us through these tough times.

That's it.

After twenty two and a half years, the last three dogs have left the kennel. Appropriately, these dogs are owned by someone who has been a client for all of those years. It's a privilege to care for the beings you hold so dearly. Thank you for your business all these years.

After twenty-two years of friendly dogs and cats (and even better owners), it's time to shut our doors. We have many large, extremely sturdy crates (they are old but made of quality materials). There are six of the extra large (non-collapsible) and misc. plastic and wire craters. $50/piece message for details.
