This old broodmare had been through a lot by the time she made it to us: underfed, signs of broodmare use, scars, and historical damage to her pelvis and LH leg.

Within her first year of living on our "Rooted in Movement" turnout system, her SI joint went from weak and with a height different of 2" left-to-right to being even and supported by good muscle tone. Her neck, ribs, back, and hindquarters filled out as she had 24/7 access to hay and a balanced feed ration.

She also made mental and behavioral strides- at first she was very difficult to blanket as she was very reactive and sensitive to any touch or motion around her hind legs and wary of human contact. She eventually became easier and safer to blanket, and this last winter was comfortable choosing to have blanket changes at liberty.

We are honored to have been entrusted to care for her in her final years and give her what she deserved- health, comfort, and peace.

We are working closely with our vets to make sure his quality of life is not compromised.

There is hope, as his comfort levels have visibly improved in the month he has been here.

Daily hoof boot and pad changes to ensure the hoof stays clean, dry, and supported.

Keeping horses in herd groups so they can develop and maintain friendships and necessary social behaviors is so important.

Allogrooming (commonly known as mutual grooming) is more than just an act of friendship amd hygiene: the rhythmic motion is calming as it lowers heart rates and cortisol levels and the physical contact releases dopamine, seratonin, and endorphins.
