Dilly has a long road ahead learning to cope with tarps. I think her first experiences with them before we got her maybe weren’t the best. She shuts down as soon as she is close to one and shows no expression or emotion other than fear but then after that she is frozen. Patience and confident leadership will free her up though!

Comment with what your horse struggles with most. They all have something!

Here’s Denver at 20 rides. He is up to 24 now with a handful of rides out and about too. He is a go-getter with lots of ambition and an always happy attitude. 🥰

Transitions on the lunge line are important to me. Upward, and downward. Denver isn’t perfect but he is getting there! I use a lot of voice cues on the ground because I think it helps them a lot in their first rides to understand exactly what I want. This video is from last week but he has made improvements since them and is pretty darn sharp with the cues of trot, canter, and easy for downward transitions. I also like them to yield their hindquarters and move their shoulder easily. Every on the ground translates to the saddle!

Denver has been a pleasure to work on lately. He is up to 20 rides and has maintained is cheerful, ambitious, and outgoing personality through them all. I enjoy every day with this guy! Video updates coming soon.

This one is a keeper but it’s still fun to introduce her. After a lot of searching and deliberating, we decided to go with a young prospect for our son. He will have to pay his dues on her, be patient as she continues to learn, and also share her with mom quite a bit so that I can continue training on her but I think it will all be worth it and they will be able to build a great relationship! He has already played some quality air guitar on her and done some sick drum solos on his saddle which she did not care about at all so it’s a great start. 😂 She is really intrigued by all the kids and very brave when it comes to all of their shenanigans. So, meet Zans Fanci Lass, a.k.a. “Dilly”! 🥰

What interests you the most?! Comment with one or more below!

1. C**t starting demo. A Friday and Saturday audit only (very affordable, maybe $15 per person) where you can watch me put the first few rides on 2-3 different horses. This would be followed by a campfire Q&A where we can talk all things horses and training.

2. Gentling and halter breaking demo. Same setup/schedule as the c**t starting demo but with untouched yearlings and 2 yr olds and focusing on developing a relationship. Even if you have an aged horse that’s well broke, a lot of the concepts of gentling and halter breaking can still be applied!

3. Holding a horse show with added money but the only horses eligible to participate would be horses who have been bought from me or been in training with me. I would possibly open this up to other trainers as well to showcase different trainers in the area. We would be competing for cash!

4. Host a clinic on backing trailers. You might think I’m kidding, but I’m not! Come learn some tricks, sharpen your skills, and become more confident with backing a trailer in a safe and fun environment with zero judgement. No offense men, but this one’s for the ladies only. 😉

I love teaching and I love getting together with other horse folks so I’d love to know what you think sounds fun!

Photo: Throwback to 2023 when Nada Carter and I discussed a plan for the ranch trail class at RHE in Iowa. Hoping to go back again sometime!
