There is a case of goats in a petting zoo testing positive for rabies in North Carolina where over 200 people have been exposed. Don't forget to keep your pets up to date with their essential vaccines (and talk to you vet about other vaccines that may be beneficial based on your pets exposure). https://www.dph.ncdhhs.gov/blog/2026/08/29/ncdhhs-confirms-rabies-mobile-petting-zoo

I did a talk for summer camp kids this morning (didn't know the ages ahead of the time but they varied from 7ish to 13ish) for an hour about veterinarians and veterinary care. I talked about the different careers in vet meds Zoos: my time at Sea World and the National Aquarium, Public health/research: my time in the military and clinical practice: my time in small animal and exotics. We touched on exams, diagnostics and vaccines. Some of the kids were entertained, some were bored, and the 13 years olds were bored out of their frickin minds and on their phones🤷‍♀️🐾 Most of the little ones came up to listen to a dogs heart and their own with my stethoscopes (I brough 4). One of the young ones gave me a note as I was packing up......🥹

Please be careful with your pets, wet them down (if you can) before walking, consider using a cooling collar or scarf, have a cool snack for afterwards (I use frozen yogurt flavored with carob and honey) or a cooling mat (if they'll use it). What are your favorite tricks on a hot day? Comment below.....🐾☀️🔥

My elderly cockatiel is now a birdie actor? I sent a short video to Harrisons about their new product Nuggies, hoping if clients endorsed it, they would continue making it (since it's one of the few treats over 20 years my little man absolutely loves) and they asked to use it in their advertising! This is so cool 😎

The Results Speak For Themselves I have been feeding Harrison’s for many years, I had four birds at one time and I’m now down to just one. Peanut has always been finicky. He likes his high potency fine kibble but loves millet most of all. I’ve tried many treats over the years and he rejects mo...

There was a report recently that the screwworm is back in the US-was found on a calf (it had been eradicated for many years) but now it has been found in a dog. Just wanted my clients to be aware, especially if they are traveling with their pets to Texas.

This is amazing! I have used acupuncture primarily for pain/lack of pain, but it also seems to help with organ dysfunction (like kidney/liver/GI disease) and a host of other problems in my patients with so little side effects, it seems a waste not to try.....

Your body has a built-in painkiller system. Acupuncture may switch it on.

This is interesting research! the only things I've been able to recommend are Anipryl (selegiline) and Senilife
