Beer, Bites, and Better Behaviors: Highlights from Our Inaugural Summer Brewery Series 🍺🐾
They came for the training, stayed for the beer, and left with friends for life!
We had an absolute blast at Lost Barrel Brewing this past weekend. Watching Yogi—a fantastic rescue mix of shepherd, chow, pit, and husky—and Bonsai the husky become fast friends while practicing their real-world manners was everything our training community is about.
A massive thank you to the team at Lost Barrel Brewery for hosting us with incredible food, great drinks, and a ideal setup for working through real-world distractions. Most of all, thank you to all the dedicated DMV dog owners who joined us. Sharing practical, science-backed guidance with people who love their dogs as much as we do is always a privilege.
Good news: We’re continuing this brewery training series every Saturday through the end of summer! If you’ve been wanting to practice calm greetings, leash focus, and social manners in a structured, real-life environment, we’d love to have you join us.

🐶 Class 1: Puppy Socialization & Foundations

Description: Get your pup started on the right paw 🐾. This class focuses on building confidence around new sights, sounds, and surfaces in a relaxed environment 🌟. We’ll skip the repetitive commands and instead teach you how to use body language and hand signals ✋🐕 so your puppy actually understands what “sit” and “down” mean the very first time you ask.

Age Limit: For puppies up to 9 months old 🍼🐶.

Scott Wolffe, the founder of Wolffe Puppy Training, has spent over 12 years helping families across Northern Virginia build great relationships with their dogs 🐕❤️. He believes training should never be about forcing robotic obedience through intimidation 🚫⚡. Instead, Scott focuses on positive reinforcement, clear communication, and helping owners lead with quiet confidence so both ends of the leash stay connected 🤝🐾.

​Scott holds himself to the highest standard of care in the industry. He is an active member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and an AKC Certified Evaluator for the S.T.A.R. Puppy Program, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), and the AKC Temperament Test (ATT).

⚠️ URGENT NEIGHBORHOOD PET ALERT: Keeping Our Pups Safe in the Extreme Heat! ⚠️ Virginia is heating up, Pack! 🔥☀️
With the temperature soaring, our local area is sizzling. While we’re trying to stay cool, let’s look out for our sweet four-legged family members who can’t tell us when they are overheating. Our pets get hot much faster than we do.
Keeping your furry best friend safe is our top priority at Wolffe Puppy Training. Remember, they can’t tell you they’re overheating, so it’s up to us to be their voice. Here are a few loving ways we can protect them over the next few days:
🔥 Watch the Pavement: If the asphalt is too hot for your bare hand for 7 seconds, it is too hot for their paws! Try to walk them early in the morning or late in the evening when the ground cools down.
💧 Hydration is Key: Ensure they have access to fresh, cold water at all times. Throwing a few ice cubes in their bowl is a fun way to keep it chilled!
🚗 Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even with the windows cracked, a parked car can become an oven in just minutes. Please leave them safe at home.
🌲 Limit Outdoor Play: Keep fetch and outdoor exercise to a minimum. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of deep shade and a cool breeze.

We were happy to meet some retired Alaskan sled dogs at the Lost Rhino Mac & Cheese Fest (yum!)

Ended up doing an impromptu training to show them proper manners when approaching a goat from the Lazy Day Farm pop up petting zoo.

Black Bear Sled Dogs support finding homes for retired Alaskan sled dogs through their Black Bear book series.
