Planning to board your dog over the holidays? Now's the time to check their vaccines. 🐕

Many boarding facilities ask for the Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine, and some also ask for canine influenza. Some vaccines need a booster a few weeks after the first dose, so starting now means your dog is covered before the holiday rush.

Bordetella is included in every Dog PetWell® Package, and canine influenza can be added on. Walk into your local PetWellClinic® and cross it off the list.

Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day. Extra weight is one of the most common things vets see: in the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention's most recent study (2022), 59% of dogs and 61% of cats were overweight or obese.

It happens to the best-loved pets, and small changes make a real difference.

Unsure? Ask about your pet's weight at any visit. Our veterinarians can recommend a plan, including special diets for weight management.

Sneezing, sniffles, runny eyes? Upper respiratory infections are one of the most common reasons cats need a quick trip to the vet, and they're something your local PetWellClinic® treats often. 🐈

Our team will check them over and recommend the right treatment, with no appointment needed. If your cat is struggling to breathe or breathing with their mouth open, go straight to an emergency vet.

It's National Walk Your Dog Week! 🦮

Here's a tip your dog will thank you for: let them sniff.
Slowing down and letting your pup explore gives their brain a workout as well as their legs, and a sniff-filled walk can leave them just as happily tired as a fast one.

So which is your dog: team sniff-every-blade-of-grass, or team brisk-and-business-like? Tell us in the comments.

If the sight of the carrier sends your cat under the bed, you're not alone. 🐈 A little practice at home can make vet visits calmer for both of you:

Leave the carrier out as part of the furniture, letting them get used to it.

Add a soft blanket that smells like home.

Drop treats inside, so they associate it with a yummy snack.

A carrier with a removable top makes it easier to examine your cat without pulling them out.

Drape a towel over it on the way in to make them feel safe.

And once you're here, your cat stays in your sight for the whole visit.
Save this for the next time the carrier comes out.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and to everyone who has opened their home to a shelter dog: thank you. 💚

If you've just brought a new dog home, here's what to take care of in the first few weeks:

- Bring their shelter or rescue paperwork, so we can see which vaccines they've already had

- A physical exam, to get a baseline for their health

- Any vaccines they're due for

- Flea, tick and heartworm prevention

- An ID tag with your current phone number

Know someone who just adopted? This one's for them. And when you're ready, walk into your nearest PetWellClinic® whenever it suits you.
