Lessons From Hot Rod
The Legacy They Leave Behind
"Some dogs come into our lives for a season. Others change the course of our lives forever."
People often ask me where the name Legacy of Love came from.
The answer has always been simple.
His name was Hot Rod.
Legacy of Love wasn't born from the day I lost him.
It was born from the years I was blessed to share with him.
Every dog that has entered my life has left a pawprint on my heart, but Hot Rod forever changed the direction of my life. He taught me what trust feels like, what partnership truly looks like, and how extraordinary the relationship between a dog and their person can become when it is built on patience, understanding, and unconditional love.
He didn't just teach me how to train dogs.
He taught me how to truly see them.
To slow down.
To listen.
To communicate without words.
To celebrate progress over perfection.
To meet each dog exactly where they are.
Those lessons became the foundation of how I train today.
When families trust me with their dogs, they are experiencing the legacy that one remarkable dog left behind.
Every fearful dog who learns confidence.
Every puppy discovering the world.
Every family rebuilding trust.
Every service dog team growing together.
Every transformation I have the privilege of witnessing...
..began with one boy who quietly changed my life.
Hot Rod's story didn't end when ours did.
His legacy continues every single day through the work I do and through every relationship I have the honor of helping strengthen.
That is what I hope every family discovers.
Our dogs are never here long enough.
But if we allow them to...
they leave us wiser.
Kinder.
More patient.
More present.
More compassionate.
They don't just become part of our story.
They become part of who we are.
That is their legacy.
And it is the greatest gift they will ever leave us.
