PUPDATE: MISS DUCHESS | GOOD FRIDAY LITTER

We received another update from one of our Good Friday families, and Miss Duchess is apparently keeping her family entertained while doing quite a bit of growing up.
First, we learned something very important about Duchess. She has a crush on Cesar Millan. Her family says they had never seen a dog actually sit and watch television before, but when Cesar comes on, Duchess stops and watches right along with them. Apparently they now share a favorite show. Beyond her television preferences, Duchess has been making some wonderful progress.

She goes for runs twice a day and enjoys evening walks after the sun goes down. She is completely house trained, understands which areas of the home are off limits, and has earned enough trust that she can now be leash free inside the house.

Those may seem like ordinary accomplishments, but they represent a puppy learning boundaries, developing self control and becoming part of the everyday rhythm of her family.

Of course, she's still a puppy, and there are things they're continuing to work through.
Duchess is currently learning that visitors don't necessarily need to be greeted with all four paws, and her family is still working on appropriate interactions around unfamiliar dogs.

She has also developed one particularly funny rule of her own:
Bathroom breaks require privacy.

If someone is getting out of a car, walking nearby, or she hears an interesting noise, apparently all potty business is immediately canceled. Her family can walk her as long as they want, but Duchess has decided some things simply should not be done with an audience.

That sounds like a Poodle with opinions.

And according to her family, those legs just keep getting longer!
What we particularly enjoy about updates like this is that they're real. Raising a puppy isn't a perfectly straight line from eight weeks old to a perfectly trained adult dog. There are accomplishments, new challenges, funny quirks and plenty of learning happening on both ends of the leash.
Duchess is growing, learning the expectations of her home and becoming more integrated into her family's everyday life. Her family is continuing to teach, exercise, expose and guide her as she matures.
That's what growing together looks like.

We provide resources covering topics such as potty training, crate training, adjusting to a new home, managing new sounds and experiences, and what to expect during those important first weeks together.

Early Foundations
Before go-home day, our puppies have already begun learning about everyday life. Age-appropriate exposure to handling, grooming, bathing, drying, brushing, household sounds, different surfaces, new experiences, crate calm, potty routines, and more helps build a foundation families can continue at home.

We are not sending home a “finished” puppy. We are giving families a puppy whose learning has already begun.

Pregnancy Care Begins Before Confirmation

After a planned breeding, there is a quiet period of waiting before pregnancy can be confirmed. Although we remain prayerfully hopeful, we never assume that a dam is pregnant before receiving veterinary confirmation.

During this early stage, our attention remains centered on supporting her overall health, comfort, and emotional well being.

Routine remains important. Familiar mealtimes, gentle activity, peaceful rest, and ordinary family life help provide stability without placing unnecessary stress on her. We continue observing her closely while allowing her to enjoy the routines she already knows.

Nutrition is handled thoughtfully. She receives a complete and balanced diet, fresh water, and careful monitoring of her appetite and body condition. We avoid making unnecessary dietary changes or adding supplements without veterinary guidance. More food is not automatically better during the earliest stage, and every decision should reflect the individual dam’s needs.

Rest is equally important. She is given plenty of opportunities to sleep, relax, and step away from activity whenever she chooses. Appropriate movement may continue, but her comfort always guides the pace.

Veterinary guidance supports every stage of the process. Our veterinarian helps us determine appropriate care, medications, parasite prevention, nutrition, activity, and the timing of pregnancy confirmation. If we notice anything concerning, we contact our veterinary team rather than waiting for a scheduled appointment.

This period is not about treating pregnancy as a certainty. It is about caring responsibly for a treasured member of our family while we wait for a carefully confirmed answer.

Whether pregnancy is ultimately confirmed or not, her health and well being remain the priority.

Look who is growing up. Our sweet Salome.

Getting updates like this from our puppy families never gets old.

Salome’s family recently sent us these pictures along with an update on how she has been doing, and there were so many little milestones packed into one message.

She has officially started training, and now that she has reached the appropriate point in her vaccinations, she has been getting out for leash walks and discovering more of the world around her. Apparently, Salome has decided that everyone she meets is a potential new friend. Her family says she loves people and is always excited to meet someone new.

And then there is the cat.

Salome absolutely loves him. Whether the feeling is equally mutual may still be up for debate.

She did have a rough patch recently with some significant stomach trouble that eventually required a trip to veterinary urgent care. Thankfully, after being evaluated and treated for gastroenteritis, she has recovered and is back to feeling like herself again. We were very relieved to hear that part of the update.

And if all of that wasn't enough growing up for one update, Salome also had her first professional grooming appointment.

Her groomer said she was a little nervous but did very well. That part made me particularly happy to hear. We spend a lot of time introducing our puppies to grooming while they are still here with us because grooming will be part of a Standard Poodle’s entire life. You never really know how much those little experiences will matter until months later when a family tells you their puppy handled her first real grooming appointment well.

Then there are these pictures.

Seeing the tiny puppy we raised now out exploring on her leash, starting training, meeting new people, getting her first big-girl haircut, and then curling up sound asleep at home surrounded by her things is exactly why I love receiving these updates.

She isn't just one of “our puppies” anymore.

She's Salome, and she's home.

Thank you to her family for loving this girl so well and for continuing to let us be a small part of her life as she grows. These are the updates that mean more to us than puppy families probably realize.

A Lifetime Connection

Go home day is a joyful milestone, but it is not the end of our relationship with an ICS puppy or family. In many ways, it is the beginning of a new chapter we continue sharing together.

Every puppy leaves our home with an early foundation, helpful resources, and people who remain invested in his or her success. As puppies settle into their new homes, families may have questions about routines, crate training, potty habits, grooming, nutrition, socialization, or behavior. We want our families to know they do not have to navigate those moments alone.

Continued guidance may include:

Meet My Daddy, Theodore Cartwright

Hello, everyone! It is your ICS Ambassador, Lydia Grace, here, and today I am delighted to introduce you to my daddy, Theodore Cartwright.

Daddy Theo may be smaller in size, but he has a wonderful presence and a personality that quickly wins people over. He is naturally calm, affectionate, and deeply people oriented. He enjoys being close to his family and is especially content settling beside them during quiet moments at home.

He has a gentle and engaging nature that allows him to participate in family life without needing to be the center of attention. Whether everyone is relaxing together or going about the day, Daddy Theo is happiest when he knows he is included.

I can tell you firsthand that he passes along some pretty wonderful qualities. His affectionate nature, intelligence, and ability to settle comfortably within the home are among the traits that make him such a valued part of Impressive Cartwright Standards.

Of course, responsible breeding requires much more than a wonderful personality.

Daddy Theo has completed comprehensive health testing to support thoughtful breeding decisions. He has OFA Excellent hips, OFA Normal elbows, and extensive genetic screening through Embark with clear results. He is also clear for CDDY and CDPA.

His verified health results, temperament, structure, and pedigree are carefully considered with every planned pairing. He was thoughtfully selected as the sire for the planned litter journeys with Darci Lynn and Raya Grace because of the qualities he may contribute and the way his results complement each female.

We know that welcoming a puppy is a significant decision. Here are answers to several of the questions families most often ask about an Impressive Cartwright Standards puppy.

When do puppies go home?

Our puppies generally join their families between 10 and 12 weeks of age. The exact timing is based upon each puppy’s development, health, readiness, and individual needs.

Where is ICS located?

Impressive Cartwright Standards is located in Kentucky near the Tennessee state line.

Are delivery options available?

Yes. Delivery or an agreed upon meeting location may be available depending upon your location and our schedule. Delivery arrangements and costs are determined individually based upon distance, travel requirements, and the needs of the puppy.

Families are welcome to contact us with their location for a personalized delivery estimate.

How much is the deposit?

The reservation deposit is $300 and is applied toward the puppy’s total purchase price.

Before puppy selection, the deposit may be refunded minus a 15 percent administrative fee. Once a family selects and commits to a specific puppy, the deposit becomes nonrefundable.

Hello, everyone! It is your ICS Ambassador, Lydia Grace, here, and today I am delighted to highlight another very special girl at Impressive Cartwright Standards: Raya Grace, for those who may not have met her yet.

Raya has a beautiful balance of affection and independence. She enjoys cuddles and attention and forms an especially devoted bond with her person, but she is also comfortable relaxing on her own. She is friendly with everyone she meets and has a warm, welcoming nature that makes people feel at ease around her.

At home, Raya is calm, easygoing, and quietly observant. She enjoys activity but settles easily afterward. Around the other dogs, she is friendly, playful, and confident within the group.

Raya approaches unfamiliar people, places, and experiences with confidence and curiosity. She is highly adaptable and carries herself with a natural assurance that allows her to adjust comfortably when life brings something new.

She is also highly intelligent, sensitive, and intuitive. Raya notices the people and activity around her and often seems to understand more than we realize. She can be an independent thinker, which is one of the qualities that makes her personality so distinctly her own.

PUPDATE: BROTHER | GOOD FRIDAY LITTER

Taylor sent us a little update on Brother recently that made us smile:

"He’s perfect! He went to a soccer game with us this weekend and slept on the sidelines for most of the game and then he got a fresh haircut.”

It may sound like a simple puppy update, but the part that caught our attention was “slept on the sidelines for most of the game.”

And the picture Taylor sent with that update says even more. There’s Brother, stretched out on the sidelines while life carries on around him.

For a young puppy, that says quite a bit.

A soccer field means unfamiliar people, children running, whistles, cheering, movement, new smells and plenty of stimulation. Brother was able to experience all of that and then simply "settle".

That ability to be part of family life without needing to be the center of everything is something we value tremendously in our Standard Poodles.

From their earliest weeks with us, our puppies are intentionally introduced to new sounds, surfaces, handling, grooming, people and age appropriate experiences. The goal isn't to raise puppies who never notice something unfamiliar. It's to give them a foundation that helps them experience something new, process it and learn how to appropriately respond to the world around them.

But what happens after they leave us matters just as much.

Brother has a family that continues taking him places, giving him appropriate experiences and making him part of their everyday life.That combination of temperament, an intentional early foundation and a family that continues the work at home is exactly what we hope to see.

Apparently, Brother decided a busy soccer game wasn't anything worth losing sleep over.

And after his big weekend outing, he got a fresh haircut too. Just look at that handsome boy!

These are the updates we love receiving. We get to remember the little puppy who left our home while watching him become a confident young Standard Poodle who can go out into the world with his family and simply belong.

This is the goal. Not just a beautiful Poodle, but a dog prepared for real family life.
