A lot of customers looking to switch to raw from another type of food such as kibble or can foods, the biggest and most common concern is “Will my cat eat this?” Sometimes cats love it straight away, but if not, here are some tips to help your feline food critic to switch over to raw:
😺 Heat up the food by running it under warm water or start with freeze dried crumbled over their existing food
😺 Play with your cat before mealtime. This simulates a hunt and cats eat after a successful hunt
😺 Gently smear some of the food on their front paw up to 3 times a day. Cats will lick it off to clean themselves and when they get it in their mouth they will notice the smell, taste, and texture. Next time they come up to their bowl and see the same food in there, they may recognize it, and eat it.
😺 Be consistent in your behavior. If you usually put the food in the bowl, set it down, and walk away, you want to continue to do this. If you add raw to the bowl for the first time and you are hovering around excitedly to see whether your cat will eat it, your cat could become extra cautious with the food.
⚠️ If your cat goes on a hunger strike demanding their old food, don’t stand your ground. A cat will starve itself and going as little as 24 hours without food can cause damage to their liver.
