๐Ÿฆท Did You Know? Your Pet's Dental Health Affects More Than Just Their Teeth! โค

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in dogs and cats, but it doesn't stop at bad breath.

When bacteria from infected gums and diseased teeth enter the bloodstream, they can travel throughout the body. Over time, this bacteria and inflammation may contribute to damage in vital organs, including the heart, kidneys, and liver. Pets with advanced dental disease can also experience chronic pain, difficulty eating, and a lower quality of life.

Signs your pet may have dental disease include:
๐Ÿพ Bad breath
๐Ÿพ Red or bleeding gums
๐Ÿพ Yellow or brown tartar buildup
๐Ÿพ Loose or broken teeth
๐Ÿพ Difficulty chewing or dropping food
๐Ÿพ Pawing at the mouth

The good news? Dental disease is largely preventable with routine dental care. Regular oral exams, professional dental cleanings when needed, and brushing your pet's teeth at home can help keep their mouth healthyโ€”and protect the rest of their body, too.

A healthy smile means a healthier pet! If your dog or cat hasn't had a dental exam recently, give us a call to schedule an appointment. Your pet's heart, kidneys, liver, and overall well-being will thank you!

๐Ÿฉธ Tiny Ticks, Big Threats! ๐Ÿฉธ

Did you know that both people and pets can get blood parasites and other serious diseases from tick bites?

When an infected tick feeds, it can transmit microscopic parasites and bacteria into the bloodstream. These organisms can damage red blood cells and cause illness ranging from mild to life-threatening.

Signs of tick-borne disease in pets may include:
๐Ÿพ Lethargy
๐Ÿพ Fever
๐Ÿพ Pale gums
๐Ÿพ Loss of appetite
๐Ÿพ Weakness
๐Ÿพ Lameness or joint pain

In people, symptoms can include:
๐Ÿฉบ Fever
๐Ÿฉบ Chills
๐Ÿฉบ Fatigue
๐Ÿฉบ Muscle aches
๐Ÿฉบ Headaches

The best defense is prevention!
โœ”๏ธ Keep your pets on year-round tick prevention.
โœ”๏ธ Check yourself and your pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
โœ”๏ธ Remove ticks as soon as possible using fine-tipped tweezers.
โœ”๏ธ Contact your veterinarian if your pet develops signs of illness after a tick bite.

Remember: Your dog or cat doesn't spread these diseases directly to you, but the same ticks that bite our pets can also bite us. Protecting your pets from ticks helps reduce the risk for the entire family.

If your pet isn't on tick prevention, give us a callโ€”we're happy to help you choose the best option to keep them protected all year long!

Is your pet afraid of fireworks? Now is the time to prepare!

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest times of year for pets experiencing anxiety and fear from fireworks. If your pet has needed calming medication in the pastโ€”or if you're concerned they may struggle this yearโ€”please don't wait until the last minute to request a prescription.

Our veterinarians may need time to review your pet's medical history and determine the best option for them. Prescription requests made early help ensure your pet has their medication before the holiday festivities begin.

๐Ÿพ Call us today if you think your pet may benefit from calming medication.
๐Ÿพ Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date.
๐Ÿพ Create a safe, quiet space at home where your pet can relax during fireworks.

Let's work together to help your pets have a safe and stress-free Fourth of July! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™
