SARCOIDS. These non metastatic skin tumors are unique to the equine species. They are the most common type of skin tumor in horses, thought to be associated with bovine papillomavirus. They are serious because they are locally and aggressively invasive. Please be doing skin checks on your horses. Face/ears, ventral abdomen, groin, sheath are common sites. Best treatment is early intervention (small tumors) with surgical excision or laser followed up with chemotherapy and strict long term monitoring, because recurrence is the most common complication.
