🐾📣NATIONAL PET OBESITY AWARENESS DAY!!!📣🐾
Today, October 14th, 2026, is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day!
It is estimated that over 60% of household pets in the U.S. are classified as overweight or obese!!!!
Many pet owners are unaware of what a normal and healthy weight should be for their pets, leading to most pets being overweight.
Excess weight increases your pet's risk of chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a reduced lifespan.
Here are some ways you can combat pet obesity:
✅ Talk to your vet: schedule regular check ups with your veterinarian so your pet can be assessed. Talk to them about a plan tailored to your pet!
✅ Cut back on extras: limit table scraps, high calorie treats, and free-feeding habits (not every animal is able to graze!!!!)
✅ Increase activity: incorporate daily walks, interactive play sessions, and puzzle feeders or active toys for physical and mental stimulation
✅ Use measured portions: don't eyeball portions! instead, use a measuring cup or scoop for every meal
