🇨🇦 CANADA BOUND! 🇨🇦

These two beautiful little pups officially started their journey to Canada yesterday! 🐾

It took a little teamwork to get everything lined up. The first leg of their journey was from Ohio to Sioux Falls, where our good friend Allie over at gemstone Bulldogs was kind enough to receive them for us. They landed safely with Allie this morning, and tomorrow the shipper from their new Canadian kennel will be coming down to pick them up and complete the final leg of their journey into Canada.

Huge thank you to Allie for helping make all of this possible. I truly appreciate you going out of your way to assist us with the transportation and making sure these babies were taken care of along the way.

I’ll let their new kennel officially announce their newest additions, but I couldn’t resist letting everyone know that this incredible little guy and gal are officially on their way north! 🇨🇦

The female is off our Bricks × Olive litter, and the male is off Mohan × MSK’s Nova. Two incredible pups from two pedigrees that I’m extremely proud of.

Ideally, I’d love to see these two eventually bred together. I think they have the potential to complement each other extremely well and produce something special. But the kennel bringing them in already has an incredible program and is doing some wonderful things up there, so whether they eventually put these two together or fuse them into what they’ve already built, I have no doubt they’ll produce some great dogs.

It’s always a great feeling watching dogs produced here at The Northstar Kennel make their way into other quality programs—and even better when they cross international borders to do it. 🌎

Safe travels to these two beautiful babies on the final leg of their journey, and once again, thank you to everyone who helped make it happen—especially Allie!

About a month and a half ago, I started getting these pains in my left arm. At first, I tried to deal with it, but it progressively got worse until it became almost intolerable. It was waking me up out of my sleep.

One morning around 5 or 6 a.m., I finally got up and went to the emergency room. Come to find out, I had a nerve issue in my neck that was causing the pain down my left arm.

Long story short, I haven’t been in the gym since.

I’ve been going to physical therapy, trying to get this nerve issue corrected, and in the meantime I’ve just been WALKING. Walking, walking, walking. I’m down two shirt sizes, which is great… but today I finally made my way back into the gym.

And man… I’ve never felt this weak in my adult life.

My left arm especially. I don’t know if I walked all my muscle off 😂 or if some of this weakness is still residual from the nerve issue, but either way, here we are.

Back in the gym. Trying to put this thing back together.

And while I was sitting there struggling with weights that I know used to be easy for me, I couldn’t help but think about how much working out can correlate with life.

Physically, I’m weaker than I’ve been in a long time, staring at one of the biggest battles I’ve ever faced when it comes to rebuilding my strength and my health.

And strangely enough, I’m going through something similar in life.

Rebuilding. Refocusing. Trying to get myself to another level.

Sometimes life will humble you. It’ll take you from where you thought you were, strip some things away, and make you build yourself back up one rep at a time.

So I don’t know… I just thought I’d share my thoughts with you guys.

Because somebody out there is standing in front of the tallest mountain they’ve ever had to climb. Somebody is getting ready to fight the biggest battle they’ve ever fought.

Whatever yours is…

Head up.
Shoulders back.

And just do it.

One rep. One step. One day at a time.

NORTH STAR’S MOHAN THE GREAT — UP FOR DISCUSSION 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

Throughout most of my breeding career, once one of my studs has been bred through my program and I feel like I’ve accomplished what I wanted to accomplish with him, I’ve generally semi-retired him here at home or found him the right guardian or pet home.

For a number of reasons, I’ve always had a hard time letting my dogs go. But at this point in my breeding career, I also realize that sometimes keeping a great dog here simply because I’m attached to him can be a little selfish—especially when that dog still has something valuable to contribute to another program.

With that being said, we are officially opening North Star’s Mohan the Great to serious offers.

Let me be clear: Mohan will not be a cheap dog. I have a number in mind, and I’m in absolutely no rush to move him.

Mohan is Grand Champion sired, carries an incredible pedigree, and has been promoted and seen across the country for a number of years. He has built a respectable name within the bulldog community and, most importantly, has already had the opportunity to contribute to what we’ve built here at North Star.

Beyond the pedigree and the name, he is simply an amazing animal. Outstanding temperament, great personality, and the kind of dog that has been a pleasure to own.

Ideally, I would love to see Mohan go to a well-established breeding program or a serious up-and-coming program where he can continue contributing and hopefully do for someone else’s program what he has done for ours.

I am open to the right pet home as well, but my preference would be to see his genetics continue to be utilized.

This isn’t a fire sale. This isn’t a “need him gone” post. It’s simply an opportunity for the right person and the right program to acquire North Star’s Mohan the Great.

The wife got me some new Meta glasses for my birthday, so what better way to break them in than giving you guys a behind-the-scenes look at the Roslyn flip. 😎🏚️➡️🏠

This house is special—it was the first property I ever bought back in 2014. It went from my personal home, to a group home, and now we’re renovating it to put it on the market.

There’s a bigger story though.

A few months ago we were almost across the finish line opening our home health nursing agency when a Medicaid moratorium put everything on hold until November.

I could sit around, bitch and complain… or pivot.

So we pivoted. 💯

We went heavy on this renovation, moved the group home to its new location where it’s now up and thriving, and kept pushing forward.

The goal? Finish Roslyn, sell it, roll that capital into the next property, and hopefully by the time November comes around, re-launch the nursing agency too.

Life is gonna life. Things won’t always happen on your timeline. Sometimes you have to adjust, find the silver lining, and keep moving.

Sometimes the setback isn’t stopping you—it’s giving you time to line everything else up.

I hope you caught that one. 💯

People don’t quite realize just how important these walks are with your dogs. They serve so many purposes beyond simply getting them some exercise.

We’ve been averaging anywhere from 2–4 miles a day, which obviously is great for my health, but it’s just as good for theirs. But honestly, the physical exercise might only be half the benefit.

It’s the bonding, obedience, repetition, and natural corrections that happen throughout the walk that really make a difference.

Sergio is already pretty good with his obedience. Rocky is still a work in progress, but one of the coolest things to watch is how much she learns simply by watching him. I’ll give a command, Sergio responds, and she’s beginning to understand what’s expected of her based on what she sees him do.

Throughout those miles, we’re constantly working without it really feeling like “training.” We’re practicing obedience, building trust, spending quality time together, and getting some good exercise at the same time.

These walks are quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of the day.

A tired dog is good.
An exercised, trained, bonded and mentally stimulated dog is even better.

Sometimes you go looking for one picture and end up taking a whole trip down memory lane. 🧬🔥

The other day, a breeder reached out asking me for pictures of North Star’s Poker Face. As I started digging through old photos, it reminded me just how special that entire breeding really was.

That breeding produced North Star’s Poker Face, North Star’s Hitman, North Star’s Diva, and an incredible litter from top to bottom. Those dogs went on to do some great things and left their mark on this community.

What made the breeding even more special was the pedigree. To the best of my knowledge, it was the first—and still possibly the only—direct double-bred Scarface breeding ever done in the United States, if not the Western Hemisphere. If somebody knows of another one, I’d genuinely love to see it.

North Star’s El Uno × Bullforce’s Valentine, bringing that Scarface blood together in a way that created something special.

Looking back, that breeding brought a whole lot to the table and definitely added some SAUCE to the bulldog community. 💯

No sales pitch. No hype needed. Just a little North Star history and appreciation for the dogs and breedings that helped build what came afterward.

I was blessed to see the actual Running of the Bulls while attending a dog show down in Fort Worth, Texas… but today, we had a little Running of the Bulls of our own! 😂🐂💨
