🐾 Herding breeds are some of the most intelligent, driven, loyal, and hardworking dogs in the world. They were bred to think independently, work alongside people, and stay focused on a job 🐾

That amazing intellect and work ethic also means they need the right outlet, training, exercise, and lifestyle to thrive. When their needs are met, these dogs can make extraordinary companions!

🇬🇧 Border Collies got their start in England/Scotland. Often considered one of the most intelligent dog breeds, Border Collies are incredibly focused, responsive, and eager to work. They excel at herding, obedience, agility, and virtually anything that gives their brilliant minds a job

🇺🇸 Australian Shepherds were ‘Made in the USA’. Aussies, no matter their size, are energetic, intelligent, versatile, and deeply devoted to their people. They thrive with active families who enjoy training, adventures, and keeping their dog engaged

🇩🇪 German Shepherd hail from none other than Germany. These pups are the definition of a versatile working dog. Originally developed for herding, their intelligence, courage, athleticism, and loyalty have made them successful in everything from farm work to service, protection, search and rescue, and competitive training

🇦🇺 Australian Cattle Dogs come from the land down under. These dogs are extremely tough, determined, and incredibly intelligent. The Cattle Dog was developed to handle the demanding job of moving cattle across the Australian outback. They have tremendous stamina, a strong work ethic, and a natural instinct to control movement which is why they tend to be a tougher fit in homes with kids

🇧🇪 Belgian born and bred, the Belgian Malinois is driven, athletic, focused, and exceptionally intelligent. These dogs are serious working animals. They excel in herding, obedience, protection, detection, and advanced working disciplines. They aren’t simply looking for a home—they’re looking for a job and a purpose 24/7

And here’s the important part to remember: a brilliant working dog isn’t automatically the right dog for every family

These breeds can be absolutely amazing companions when their physical and mental needs are understood and met. Training for them isn’t just about teaching commands. It’s about giving these pups the skills to live successfully in our world

🐕 The right dog + the right lifestyle + the right training = an incredible partnership

Which herding breed would you choose?!

Starting out strong with our family pups! 🏡

Looking for a dog that’s great with the whole family? While every dog is an individual, these breeds have earned a reputation for being loyal companions, loving family members, and wonderful lifelong friends

🇨🇦 Newfoundlands come from Canadian ancestors. They are known as the “gentle giant” of the dog world. Newfies are ncredibly patient, sweet, and naturally protective. Their calm temperament makes them exceptional with children

🇨🇦 Labrador Retriever is America’s favorite family dog for a reason! Their lineage can be traced back to Canadian ancestors. Labs are friendly, eager to please, highly trainable, and always always always ready for the next adventure

🇩🇪 Originally from Germany, Boxer are goofy, energetic, and fiercely devoted to their people. These sweet souls prove to be playful with kids while remaining naturally protective of their families

🇬🇧 Golden Retrievers got their start in Scotland. They are affectionate, intelligent, and incredibly gentle. They’re one of the easiest breeds to train and absolutely love being involved in every family activity, even if it’s simply watching a movie on the couch

🇬🇧 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel hail from jolly ole England. A small dog with a huge heart! Cavaliers thrive on companionship and are happy to cuddle on the couch or join you and the kids for a walk

🇨🇭 Bernese Mountain Dog is our giant from Switzerland. Gentle, loyal, and patient, they are known for their calm nature and deep bond with their families. They’re happiest when they’re included in everyday life with you

🇩🇪 The Poodle! Don’t let the fancy haircut fool you these pups, original brought up in Germany, are among the smartest dog breeds in the world! They’re highly trainable, affectionate, and come in multiple sizes to fit different lifestyles for every kind of family

✨ Always remember, no single breed is “one-size-fits-all.” The best family dog is one whose energy level, personality, and needs match your family’s lifestyle. Proper training, socialization, and responsible ownership make allllllll the difference 🐾

Axel 💚 he was back with us for a little puppy vacation.

This sweet soul is a very special boy. He’s close to all our hearts as he is a foster to adopt success story of our founder, Jami.

Before this pup could turn 1, he had been imported from Germany, disqualified from an ethical breeder’s program due to a slight paw deformity, responsibly found his forever home but lost his mom to two shocking strokes. He was then surrendered to a humane society 2 hours and 45 minutes away. All at absolutely no fault of his own.

The professional connections that our founder has saved this pups life. Before the human society could intake him, Jami was there to take him home. Covered in cat p*e and caked in litter, you could barely tell he was solid black.

German Shepherd’s don’t do well in shelters. It can turn the best boy into a reactive dog. Black dogs are intimidating…a black German Shepherd? Well that’s even tougher. The odds were against him.

2 months of training later and he was ready to go to his actual forever home.

4 years later he is the absolute BEST big brother to his 3 year old and his 7 month old human kiddos.

When he’s not looking out for their safety, he doubles as their jungle gym 😂 you won’t meet a shepherd with a better, more patient temperament when it comes to kids and adults alike.

Happy August!

In the spirit of back to school prep we are going to kick off a series “Doggy 101”

We have had so many conversations about breeds and why some qualities in our pups are naturally ingrained and how that can impact their training

Whether it’s personally or professionally, we consistently get the opportunity to pass along our breed specific knowledge SO why not pass it on to you in the spirit of education 🤓

📣📣 If you see your pup represented, shout them out and share a pic!!!

Sometimes, when it’s hot outside you have to play in the sprinkler 💦😂💃🏼

Chloe and Daisy were back with us for some boarding while their family was away 🐾

Both girls have been through training programs with us and we look forward to having these sweet souls snuggling with us each time their family goes where pups can’t 💚

Our clients are always curious if their pup knows when it’s time to go home or if they get excited when their human pulls in to get them.

The short answer is always, yes.

The long of it….? They are used to such a steady schedule with us that when we deviate from it, even slightly, they know something is different and exciting.

They get excited when we start packing their belongings for them. They get excited when we stage their suitcases for pickup. They get the chance to add their nose artwork to the door for the 500th time that week and then you pull into the driveway and all bets are off because “MY HUMANS ARE HERE!” 🐾

We are told time and time again that the pups that know us well and see us steadily get excited when the car heads our way. Whelp, they get even more excited to see YOU 💚🥹

Everyone, meet Stevie 💚

Stevie is a sweet 6 month old rescue. She is a true “mutt” with a mix of all the breeds including a large portion of lab. When we started working with Stevie, it was super important to her family that she mind well but also keep her sweet personality.

It is always our mission to improve the listening skills and patience of your furry friend. We never change personalities and neither does our training program.

Stevie spent 3 weeks in our Board & Train puppy program. She has since gone home to continue learning with us & her family in our trainer led in-home sessions that come with all of our Board & Train programs.

We spent three weeks working with her on her walking skills, manners, listening skills and basic puppy commands. Now that she’s home, and her amazing family is keeping up with her skill set, we get to do fun things like expand her knowledge with some outdoor boundary work (which means she won’t need an electric fence when she’s outside) and some additional off leash training.

It’s SO fun and rewarding to watch her grow, expand her knowledge and watch her work so seamlessly with her family.

The “spot” command is useful in sooooo many ways.

In this case, Tucker is relaxed and on “spot” at the vet. He is calmer than your average 4 month old puppy because he knows what is expected of him when he’s asked to do a job by his humans.

Tucker got all the pets, love and compliments during his last visit. This 50 pound 4 month old is going to be a big boy so honing his skills now means he will always have those the older (and bigger 😅) he gets.

Clyde was back with us recently for some boarding while his humans took a trip 💚

For those of you that don’t know about Clyde, it’s important to know three things: He’s a rescue bait dog, he is scared of mice & loud noises and he’s the sweetest bean you’ll ever meet as long as you’ve earned his trust.

We have been working consistently with Clyde for the last 3 years. When we first met him he was freshly in his forever home but had no ability to regulate himself. He would pace and wasn’t able to relax or trust his surroundings and he was resource guarding certain members of the family. Clyde also had issues around other dogs (understandably so considering he was the dog used to make fighting dogs confident).

His first summer stay with us gave us a good look into how he acted around storms, fireworks and other loud noises. We absolutely couldn’t take him outside if any of those things were happening and he absolutely could not be around any other dogs safely.

After consistent, patient work he is now able to regulate himself around those same noises that used to make him hide and p*e. It’s so rewarding for us to see how far Clyde has come. To get pictures of him sleeping soundly without a care in the world. This year he confidently took walks outside to do his business even amidst fireworks and pop up thunderstorms.

When he boards with us, he is able to be around our trained dogs without trying to take them out because he thinks they’re a threat. Does that mean Clyde could live in a home with another pup safely? No, it’s just not how he’s built, BUT when it comes to stints of safe and calm socialization he absolutely can now 🥹.

And those scars on his body? They’re just a reminder of how strong and resilient he is despite what he’s been through. Rescues take time, patience and consistent work and it’s worth every ounce of effort every single time.
