Please join us in welcoming Lily, an adorable Golden Retriever puppy, to the Akron Animal Hospital family! 🐶🌼 Just look at that sweet face! We have a feeling this little ray of sunshine is going to steal plenty of hearts during her visits! 🥰💕

✨ Did you know these fun facts about Golden Retrievers? 🐕💛

🐾 Born to be friendly! Goldens are known for their loving, outgoing personalities and their desire to be part of the family.

🧠 Smart cookies! Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent and eager to please, which makes them wonderful candidates for training and learning new tricks!

🎾 Playtime is their specialty! Originally bred to retrieve game for hunters, Goldens often LOVE playing fetch and carrying their favorite toys around.

💦 Water lovers! Many Golden Retrievers enjoy swimming, thanks in part to their water-repellent double coats and history as retrieving dogs.

❤️ Professional best friends! Their gentle, affectionate nature makes them popular family companions, as well as excellent service, therapy, and assistance dogs.

Lily, we are so happy you stopped by! We can't wait to watch you grow, learn, and share lots of puppy love with everyone at Akron Animal Hospital. 🩺🐾💛

🐢🦎🐍 National Reptile Awareness Day 🐍🦎🐢

Scales, shells, and slithery tails! 💚 Today, we're celebrating the amazing world of reptiles and the unique pets who make our animal-loving families a little more interesting! 🐢🐍🦎

From curious bearded dragons and beautiful ball pythons to box turtles and leopard geckos, reptiles come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities. And just like our furry friends, they need proper care to stay happy and healthy! 💚

🌿 🐍 FUN REPTILE FACTS! 🦎

🐢 Turtles have been around for a LONG time! Their ancestors date back more than 200 million years!

🦎 Geckos have amazing feet! Many species can climb smooth surfaces thanks to tiny structures on their toe pads.

🐍 Snakes smell with their tongues! They collect scent particles with their forked tongues and use a special organ in their mouths to help interpret them.

☀️ Reptiles rely on their environment! As ectotherms, they depend on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature, making proper habitat temperatures essential.

🐉 Every species has different needs! From UVB lighting and humidity to diet and habitat setup, the right care depends on the type of reptile you have.

🐢 A little extra reminder: Always wash your hands after handling reptiles or cleaning their habitats, as reptiles can carry Salmonella even when they look perfectly healthy.

At Akron Animal Hospital, we believe every animal deserves compassionate care — whether they have fur, feathers, or scales! 🐾💚

👇 Let's celebrate our scaly friends! Do you have a reptile at home? Share a picture of your cold-blooded companion in the comments and tell us their name! 🦎📸
The snake pictured is named Henry and he belongs to our Receptionists Bethany!

🐾🐶 HAPPY NATIONAL PUG DAY! 🐶🐾

Wrinkles, snorts, curly tails, and BIG personalities in little packages! 💕 Today, we're celebrating one of the most lovable and recognizable breeds around — the PUG! 🐾🎉

At Akron Animal Hospital, we think these little charmers deserve extra belly rubs and treats today! 🥰

🐶 FUN PUG FACTS! 🐶

🐾 Royal Roots! 👑 Pugs have been around for hundreds of years and were treasured companions of Chinese emperors!

🐾 Those Adorable Wrinkles! Pugs' wrinkly faces are one of their most recognizable features, and those expressive little faces are hard to resist!

🐾 Curly-Q Tails! A tightly curled tail is a classic Pug trademark. Some even have a double curl! 🌀

🐾 Big Personality, Small Package! Pugs are known for being affectionate, playful, charming, and sometimes a little mischievous!

🐾 Professional Couch Potatoes! 🛋️ Pugs love spending time with their people and are often happiest snuggling up for some quality couch time.

🐾 Those Snorts Aren't Just Cute! Pugs are a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed, which can make breathing and staying cool more difficult. Keeping them at a healthy weight, avoiding strenuous exercise in hot weather, and watching for breathing difficulties are especially important!

❤️ A LITTLE PUG LOVE GOES A LONG WAY! ❤️

🐶 Let's see those squishy faces! Drop a picture of your pug in the comments below! We can't wait to see all those wrinkles and curly tails! 📸👇

Happy National Pug Day from all of us at Akron Animal Hospital! 🐾💕

🐾⚖️ It’s National Pet Obesity Awareness Day! ⚖️🐾

We all love spoiling our pets with treats, snacks, and an extra helping of their favorite food—but sometimes those little extras can add up! 🐶🐱💕

Just like in people, carrying extra weight can put pets at greater risk for health problems such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, breathing difficulties, and decreased quality of life.

👀 How can you tell if your pet may be carrying a few extra pounds?
• You should be able to feel their ribs without pressing hard
• Your pet should have a visible waist when viewed from above
• Their abdomen should tuck upward when viewed from the side
• Difficulty getting around, tiring easily, or reluctance to exercise can also be clues

🍖 A few healthy habits can make a BIG difference!
🐾 Measure meals instead of free-feeding
🐾 Keep treats to a small portion of their daily calories
🐾 Encourage regular exercise and play
🐾 Be mindful of table scraps and “just one more” treats
🐾 Schedule regular wellness visits so we can monitor your pet’s weight and body condition

And remember—a healthy weight isn’t about being skinny; it’s about helping your pet live their happiest, healthiest life! 💙

If you're wondering whether your pet is at a healthy weight, ask us at their next visit! We’re always happy to help create a weight-management plan that works for you and your furry family member. 🐕🐈
