We all want clarity with our dogs. But skipping steps and adding corrections you hardly understand when your dog DEFINITELY doesn’t get it. Is not the path 😅 so no, I won’t be recommending a brand…other than

One of our trainers at is Ashtyn of K9 Align
Ashtyn has a specialty; bull breeds and genetic motivation. Dogs that learn to be afraid can unlearn....its not exactly the same conversation with dogs who have a genetic motivation.
🐾 KNOW THE BREED. RESPECT THE DOG. 🐾
The American Pit Bull Terrier was bred for strength, athleticism, determination, and gameness. Understanding their history helps us become more responsible owners.

Socialization is important, but it doesn’t guarantee every dog will be compatible.

⚠️ Not every dog needs to be your dog’s friend!

✅ Know your dog.
✅ Respect their boundaries.
✅ Manage interactions responsibly.
✅ Never confuse love with lack of management.

Responsible ownership isn’t about proving your dog gets along with every dog. It’s about understanding abd respecting your dog and setting them up for success. 💯

Your dog pulling because they want to sniff? Jumping because they’re excited? Ignoring you because they’d rather do something else?

You can understand WHY your dog does something without accepting the behavior.

Your dog might WANT to do something. That doesn’t mean they should always GET to do it.

Your job is to teach them how to handle those moments and be consistent with your expectations. Because if you let the little things slide every day, don’t expect the big things to suddenly fall into place when it matters.

Understand the behavior. Teach the expectation. Follow through.

Meet Levi's dogs! First is Bruce! The Bully breed and star of Levi Oosthuizen | Dog Trainer !
Bruce 🐾

Bruce is my medical alert and response service dog, but to me he’s so much more than that. He’s been by my side through pretty much everything and has become a huge part of my everyday life.

He’s an incredibly driven dog and absolutely loves having a job. Training is one of his favorite things, especially when it challenges him. He’s also happiest when we’re outside in nature. Give him a trail, somewhere to run, or something he can climb over and he’s in his element.

He has so much energy and personality. He can be completely focused when he’s working and then turn around and be the biggest goofball five minutes later.

I’ve put a lot of work into him over the years, but he’s taught me just as much in return, probably more than any other dog ever will. Watching him grow into the dog he is now has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life with him.

He’s my service dog, but first and foremost, he’s my dog. 🤍

Next is
Sherlock 🕵‍♂️
Sherlock is my Belgian Malinois and my service dog in training. He’s still young, but he already has that of intensity that makes you look at him and know exactly what he’s going to grow into.

Right now, a lot of his life is about learning. He’s figuring out the world, learning how to work with me, building confidence, and slowly developing into the dog I know he can be. He’s definitely still a puppy though, and sometimes that comes through loud and clear 😂

He has a lot of drive and is everything I envisioned.
I'm excited to see him flourish and can't wait to take on PSA as a team when the time comes.
He’s got a big personality already, and I have a feeling he’s going to keep me on my toes for a long time.

This is just the beginning for Sherlock. 🖤

It isn’t magic. It’s repetition.

Your dog is learning from you all day long — whether you realize it or not.

Dogs don’t really understand “sometimes.” They learn patterns.

If you ask for something, but only follow through when it’s convenient, your dog learns that your words are optional.

But when you’re consistent, something really cool happens:

Your dog starts to understand when a behavior is expected — and when it’s not.

“Heel” means stay with me.
“Free” means go sniff, explore, move around and be a dog.

That’s how you can have a dog who behaves when it matters without having to micromanage them every second of the day.

Clear communication gives your dog an on/off switch for behavior.

Consistency creates clarity.
Repetition creates understanding.
Following through makes your words mean something.

It’s not magic.

It’s what you practice.

👋I’m Levi Oosthuizen, a professional dog trainer originally from South Africa, where I developed my foundation in pet dog training, obedience, and behavior modification. I worked with a wide range of dogs and behavioral challenges during my time training dogs for the humane society and afterward while running my own pet dog training business.

Since moving to the U.S., I’ve continued working with clients both in person and online, focusing on obedience and Defence training. I also have extensive hands-on experience training my own Medical Alert and response service dog, Bruce, from start to finish.

I take a balanced, individualized approach to training and focus on creating dogs that are reliable, confident, well-mannered, and capable of functioning in the real world—not just following commands in a controlled environment.
