View Available Pets Here: https://tinyurl.com/spcaalbrechtpets Established in 1935, the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is a private, non-profit organization operating under IRS Section 501c3. We have been placing thousands of needy animals into loving forever homes for over 80 years. MISSION
We strive to improve the lives of companion animals by rehoming abused, abandoned, and neglected pets while fighting for their well-being through vigorous legislative effort, humane education, and by offering affordable veterinary care for all. VISION
We envision a world in which every animal has a safe and loving home, access to quality veterinary care, and where the unfailing love and devotion of a companion animal is valued by all. We depend upon local donations to support our efforts to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in our community and receive no regular funding from state or federal agencies, or from the ASPCA (a completely separate entity). Our success is due to the efforts of dedicated SPCA Albrecht Center employees and volunteers, leadership and support from our Board of Directors, as well as the generous donations and continued support of our community.

Would you adopt this dog based on his intake photo? Believe it or not, that's him smiling 😅

Take a good look at that first picture. Now take a look at the other photos. Same dog. Same smile. Very different picture. And that's something we wish more people understood about shelter animals.

This is Wire 🐾 He was found by one of our veterinary staff members, and that photo was taken when he first came into our care.

When most dogs first arrive here, they're often scared, confused, overwhelmed, or simply unsure of what's happening. They're surrounded by unfamiliar sounds, smells, people, and other animals.

And even after they've had time to settle in, a kennel isn't exactly the best place to show someone what kind of companion they could be.

Some dogs bark at everyone who walks by, then turn into complete cuddle bugs the moment you take them outside. Others hide in the back of their kennel and come alive once they feel comfortable.

Sometimes, a dog just has a funny little smile that doesn't photograph particularly well 😂 The dog you see behind kennel bars isn't always the dog you'll get to know outside of them. Wire is a pretty good reminder of that.

He's got those big floppy ears, a face that's impossible not to love, and a smile that makes a whole lot more sense once you get to know him.

So the next time you visit a shelter, don't be too quick to judge a dog by what you see through the kennel door.

Ask to meet them. Take them outside. Give them a few minutes to show you who they are. You might find that the dog you almost walked past is exactly the one you came looking for. 🩵🐾

And if Wire's little smile has already won you over, come meet him!

Brown Hound has never met a stranger... Just people he hasn't hugged yet 🩵 🐾

Brown Hound is a 4½-year-old chocolate Lab mix with a little hound thrown in for good measure. At least that's our best guess😂

He's incredibly affectionate, loves belly rubs, and seems to believe just about anyone has the potential to become his new best friend.

He loves car rides, and no seat is too big for him to climb over when there's an open window to get to. He's still working on his leash manners, but he's a pretty great travel buddy.

Back at the shelter, he plays well with most other dogs, has been polite around cats, and has some hilariously acrobatic moves in playgroup. And when the playing is done, he's right back to looking for someone to cuddle with.

Brown Hound doesn't need a huge yard or an elaborate setup. Just a family who enjoys walks, appreciates a little personality, and doesn't mind a dog who thinks personal space is a suggestion.

He's got plenty of love to give. Now he just needs his own people to give it to. And don't forget, all adoptions are ❗ 60% OFF this week❗

❗60% OFF ALL ADOPTIONS❗
We had only ONE dog adopted last week... One.

And don't get us wrong, we're thrilled she found her family! But she was also pretty small, ridiculously cute, and about as easygoing as they come.

In shelter terms, that's what we'd call pretty low-hanging fruit 😅
Meanwhile, we have kennels full of wonderful dogs who are still waiting.

We have dogs that are great with other dogs, dogs that love kids, dogs that walk beautifully on leash, have wonderful manners, and would make fantastic companions.

We know there are good homes out there for these animals. We just need to help them find each other. So this week, we're taking ❗ 60% OFF ALL ADOPTIONS ❗

Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens... all of them!
If you've been thinking about adopting, please come visit. And if you're not looking to adopt, share this post to help us get these animals in front of someone who is.

Banner wasn't entirely sure why we were leaving the shelter before the sun came up. But the second he realized we were going for a car ride? He was ALL IN😂🐾

We took Banner to News 12 26 Augusta's Take Me Home segment the other morning, and he was on his absolute best behavior!

Banner LOVES car rides, so he spent the first part of our trip with his head out the window, taking in all the smells and chatting with his new friends at the stoplights. Once he'd had enough sightseeing, he curled up for a quick nap before we arrived at the station.

And when we got there he was just as perfect. He made friends with the station staff, soaked up plenty of attention, and even earned himself a chicken biscuit on the way back to the shelter for being such a good boy🥹

Banner is one of those dogs who's just happy to be along for the ride. Whether it's an early morning adventure, meeting new people, or simply hanging out with his favorite humans, he's ready for whatever life brings.

As long as what life brings next is a family to call his own🩵 Come meet Banner!

After years of planning, we finally put shovels in the ground🩵🐾

Last Wednesday was a pretty special day here at the SPCA Albrecht Center as we officially broke ground on our new veterinary extension building and celebrated the next chapter of our Furever Campaign!

It was a moment years in the making, and seeing so many familiar faces gathered to celebrate with us made it even more meaningful.

The new facility is just one piece of a much bigger vision. Through the Furever Campaign, we're investing in the future of animal welfare in Aiken. From improvements to our shelter and veterinary services to the equipment, transportation, and resources that will help us care for animals and serve our community for years to come.

And thanks to the generosity of our supporters, more than $1 million has already been raised toward this project!

To everyone who joined us for the groundbreaking, helped bring this project to life, or has supported our mission along the way - thank you.

For more than 90 years, this community has helped us grow into the organization we are today. Now, together, we're building what comes next. And we can't wait to show you what's ahead. 🩵

Nami needed help - so we told her story. And within two days, she was adopted. ❤️

Now Noventa, Prudence and Sally need that same community support. 🫶

These wonderful dogs have been waiting longer than we’d like, and shelter life can become increasingly difficult over time. You don’t have to adopt to make a difference. Come spend some time with them, take one on a Doggie Day Out, ask about an overnight or weekend sleepover, consider fostering, or simply share their photos and stories with your friends.

Sometimes all it takes is the right person seeing the right dog at the right time. 🤞

Read this week’s article 👇 and help us find that person for Noventa, Prudence and Sally. 🐾

A huge thank you to our friends at the The Green Boundary Club for inviting the SPCA out for an evening with some very good dogs and their people!

We had a blast and thank to all of our raffle donors for all of the goodies! Aiken Saddlery, SPCA Thrift Store, Aiken Ladies Aside, Wayne Heath Automotive Company, Greenleaf Endeavors

A fun night, happy dogs, and one shelter pup getting a place to call his own… We call that a win🩵

Thank you to everyone at the Green Boundary Club for welcoming us and giving our dogs another chance to get out, make some friends, and be part of the community🐾

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!

We need someone to take Nami home❗ This is urgent ❗

We've known Nami since November 2023. She's been in and out of our shelter since then, and right now, we're watching a dog we love struggle more than we've ever seen her struggle before.

Nami has severe separation anxiety. She was returned after escaping when she was left home alone. We've tried temporary foster homes, but each transition back to the shelter leaves her even more stressed than before.

She's on anxiety medication, but at this point, her stress here is so overwhelming that even medication isn't helping her settle. Nami cannot continue living like this.

And what's so difficult is that, on paper, Nami is one of the most adoptable dogs we have. She's smaller and easy to handle. She walks well on leash. She's good with other dogs and actually finds comfort in having another dog around when she's anxious. And she absolutely loves children.

What Nami needs isn't another temporary home. She needs a family willing to give her time to decompress and learn that when her people leave, they will come back.

Her separation anxiety won't disappear the day she walks out our doors. Her new family will need patience, consistency, and a willingness to work through it with her. Another confident dog in the home may help give her some of the security she desperately needs.

But we need to be very clear about where things stand now.

Nami's stress has reached a level that is seriously affecting her quality of life, and she cannot remain in the shelter like this much longer.

We need someone who can look beyond the anxiety we're seeing inside these walls and give Nami the stability she's been missing for almost three years. She doesn't need another place to stay for a little while.

She needs somewhere she can finally stay.

If you think your family could be that place, please visit our shelter to meet Nami. You can also email our adoption team at [email protected] or send a text to 803-200-1918.

We know there's a home out there where Nami can feel safe again. We need your help finding it. 🩵 🐾
