Our very first pair of Phelsuma robertmertensi babies hatched today! Even smaller than neon day gecko hatchlings, these starry little geckos have so much personality right out of the egg. Absolutely curious and fearless. 💚🩵✨

One of last season's Hawaiian Blue gold dusts is coloring up nicely! Even the ones with little blue pattern out of the egg seem to be turning blue in their base color. Good lighting is key to bringing out their color. I still have a handful left and ready to fly!

Growth and loss in the same 24 hours. We added two new species to our group, Phelsuma guimbeaui and Phelsuma borbonica! But our favorite crispy baby, the premature Hawaiian Blue hatchling affectionately called Possum has passed away. He made it 15 days but never showed interest in food. He couldn't make it past his second shed. Failure to thrive cases are gutting whether it's reptiles or mammals. We tried our very best.

Here's a behind the scenes story: I had a baby Hawaiian Blue hatch out days after its sibling, yolk not absorbed and very small. I put him on wet napkins in a tall deli cup until he absorbed what he could, and tried my best to help at least clear his face and feet of shed since he didn't have the energy to do it himself. It's been 6 days and he's still fighting and very energetic to the point where I can't help with the lingering shed. I am hand feeding at times just for a little extra boost.

Now the question is, what on earth is happening to his color?! Blue is starting to show in the most random patches on solid black. Incubation related vs genetics? Stay tuned for updates on this little one, we hope he makes it past this rough start!
