🎆 The 4th of July is NEXT WEEKEND! 🐾

Fireworks may be fun for us, but for many pets, they can be one of the most frightening nights of the year.

Now is the time to make sure your furry family members are ready for a safe and stress-free holiday!

🐶 Does your pet need anti-anxiety medication?
If your pet has a history of being fearful during fireworks, don't wait until the last minute. Give us a call this week so we can discuss whether medication may be appropriate. Please remember that many medications require a trial run before the holiday to ensure they work well for your pet.

🏡 Keep pets safely indoors.
The Fourth of July is the #1 day of the year for lost pets. Even pets who have never tried to escape before can panic and run when fireworks begin.

Before the celebrations start:
✅ Keep pets inside in a secure, quiet room.
✅ Make sure collars and ID tags are on and up to date.
✅ Double-check that your pet's microchip information is current.
✅ Close windows, doors, and gates securely.
✅ Play calming music or turn on the TV to help drown out outside noises.

Whether you're heading across town or across the country, taking a few extra precautions can help keep your furry co-pilot safe and comfortable on the road.

Here are a few of our favorite travel safety tips:
✅ Secure your pet with a harness, seatbelt, or crate
✅ Never leave your pet unattended in a parked vehicle
✅ Pack plenty of water and take regular potty/stretch breaks
✅ Bring medications, food, waste bags, and a favorite toy
✅ Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date

Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and an important milestone in American history.

Hot spots can develop quickly and be quite painful, so Ace's family did the right thing by scheduling an appointment as soon as they noticed a problem.

🌊🐾 WATER SAFETY FOR PETS 🐾🌊

Summer adventures are better when our furry friends can join in on the fun! Whether you're heading to the lake, river, pool, or beach, it's important to remember that not all pets are natural swimmers—and even strong swimmers can get into trouble.

Before your next water adventure:

🦺 Consider a properly fitted life jacket
💧 Bring plenty of fresh drinking water
☀️ Provide shade and frequent breaks
👀 Watch closely for signs of fatigue or distress
⚠️ Be aware of strong currents, blue-green algae, and hidden hazards

After your pet's swim, be sure to rinse them off, dry their ears thoroughly, and check for any cuts, scrapes, or irritation.

Remember: A little preparation can help prevent big problems and keep everyone safe while enjoying the water. ❤️

🐾☀️ HOT PAVEMENT = HOT PAWS ☀️🐾

As temperatures rise, so does the temperature of concrete and asphalt. What feels warm to us can quickly become dangerous for our pets.

Did you know that when the air temperature is just 85°F, pavement temperatures can reach 140°F or higher? At those temperatures, your pet's paw pads can suffer painful burns in as little as 60 seconds.

Before heading out for a walk:
✅ Test the pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pet.
✅ Walk during the cooler parts of the day (early morning or late evening).
✅ Choose grassy or shaded routes whenever possible.
✅ Consider protective booties for extra paw protection.

Signs of burned paw pads may include:
🐾 Limping
🐾 Excessive licking or chewing of the feet
🐾 Darkened or missing paw pad tissue
🐾 Reluctance to walk

Our pets rely on us to keep them safe. A quick temperature check before your walk can help prevent a painful injury.
