The farm barter was a huge success! I always have an absolute blast, but more than that we got a LOT of chickens and ducks in donation as well as a handful of rabbits.

The crew and I then spent the next two days after putting all of the donated animals into the donate freezer. One member of the crew donated some of his personal stock of venison and fish that he hunted and fished himself. It was a LOT of work, but fully worth it. Next year we plan on counting how many animals we put away, but that did not happen this year.

Of course after all that you take a few days to recover and naturally that is when the kids get sick, so the post is late, but its here!

When all was said and done we had goat, chicken, duck, rabbit, venison, and fish in the donate freezer. We have since helped many families in need and will continue helping as long as we have meat to give. We are currently trying to figure out a date to do another harvest for people who had animals and couldn't make it to the swap.

Today was a good day. We got this "sleepy" guy broken down and off to the freezers. His nap will help local families in need.

A big thank you to the wonderful lady who sent him our way and her husband for making him so sleepy.

If you are local to me and know a family that is struggling, please reach out. Times are tough, we need to be supporting neighbors where we can. I will have extra rabbit too if you can't do goat. If you can't do goat or rabbit, we will figure something out.

If you are local and have extra roosters, goats, sheep, rabbits or something else and want to contribute, let me know. We will be at the farm barter under the green tent too.

Bff X New boy litter born mar 18

This is a test breeding between full sister and full brother from the same litter. All of these babies will be heading to the freezer.

While the occasional brother/sister pairing is perfectly fine in rabbits, it is not normally something I would do especially in lines with known genetic issues. This breeding should tell me is anything else is in the genetics for example something like moon eye or heart issues.

Test breeding is very important to dial in your rabbits genetics and if you don't have the room to keep rabbits specifically for test breeding, line breeding is the next best thing.

Only 2 made it and it wasn't Mystique's fault. A peanut, runts, and weaning enteritis even with hay all took its toll. Mystique is a wonderful mom and I feel so bad for her, she always tries her best.

Both babies from her litter are of course, boys. A black and a tri for colors. I soooooo wanted the tri to be a doe. He has black spots that make the patterns of Orion's belt and the big dipper! Thats what I get for naming him a doe name before I could reliably check 😂

Both are wide babies with good sholders, such an improvement. Topline is flat on both of them and their hips are visibly narrow. Lots more work to do, but we are headed in the right direction, and these two are heading to the freezer in a few weeks.

Tick Tack doe X New boy

This is Tick Tack's last litter. lost quite a few because she would rather eat the kits bedding or throw it out than them be warm. I ended up shelving this litter as long as I could and still lost them. That and her don't look at me attitude means freezer camp. Bad mom's aren't tolerated.

Doe 1 is a Booted black, doe 2 is a tri, doe 3 is a booted tri. Buck 1 black

Look at this improvement! The tri and booted tri doe's will be kept back. Booted tri for the color and tri for the body type. Again, a lot of improvement needs to happen, but from where we started, this is pretty good for a handful of generations in. More pictures will be taken when they are weaned and have time to fill out.
