Heartworms affect cats, too: 🐱 Heartworm disease isn't just a dog disease. While treatment is difficult for dogs, there are zero approved treatments for cats. Prevention is their only defense!

Missing a dose matters: 🗓️ Skipping just one month or stopping during winter leaves your pet vulnerable. Microclimates and changing weather keep mosquitoes active longer than you'd expect.

Testing is key: 🧪 Annual testing ensures your pet stays healthy and that prevention is working safely.

Today is World Mosquito Day, making it the perfect time to talk about a hidden threat to our pets: Heartworm Disease.

Here are 3 fast facts every pet owner in Ada needs to know:
1️⃣ One bite is all it takes: Heartworms are spread exclusively through mosquito bites. When an infected mosquito bites your dog or cat, it deposits heartworm larvae directly into their bloodstream.
2️⃣ Indoor pets aren't exempt: Mosquitoes easily slip through open doors and screen tears. Over 25% of cats diagnosed with heartworm disease are strict indoor pets!

​Looking for a fun way to let your pup cool off and splash around? Save the date for the Puppy Pool Pawty!

​When: Thursday, September 10th | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

​Where: Glenwood Aquatic Center

​Admission: $10 per pup

​A few quick rules before you head out:

​Dog parents/owners must be at least 16 years old (up to 2 dogs per human).

​Dogs must be friendly and up-to-date on their rabies vaccine—make sure to bring proof of vaccination! 📄✨

​Concessions will be available on-site.

​Best of all, 100% of the proceeds benefit PAWS Animal Shelter! 🐶❤️
