🐾 Slow is fast when you’re learning something new.

When people think of agility, they often picture dogs flying through obstacle courses at lightning speed. And while that’s fun to watch, it isn’t where learning begins!

Before a dog can confidently navigate a course, they need the opportunity to understand each obstacle, learn how their body moves, and figure out what’s being asked of them.

That’s exactly what Webster worked on during today’s enrichment session. 🌿

We introduced the obstacles individually, took our time with each one, and gradually put them together into a simple course.

No rushing. No pressure to get it perfect. Just opportunities to explore, learn, build confidence, and have fun.

Because when we give dogs the time they need to understand a new behavior, we’re building a much stronger foundation for what comes next. And that foundation is what allows speed and fluency to develop later.

The goal isn’t to get through the course as quickly as possible. It’s to help the dog learn how to navigate it confidently. 🤎

That’s the beauty of agility as enrichment: it’s not just about the obstacles. It’s about the learning that happens along the way. 🐾

It’s been a little quiet around here lately… and honestly, life got BUSY. 😅🍂

But while I’ve been catching my breath, these guys have been busy doing what dogs do best!

🐿️ Webster taking chipmunk investigations VERY seriously.
🌳 Murphy putting his squirrel-tracking skills to work.
🌱 Sammy reminding us that sometimes the best thing in the world is just rolling around in a field.

Sniffing, exploring, investigating, and following those wonderful canine instincts — that’s what enrichment is all about. 💚

Because enrichment isn’t always about learning a new trick or completing a puzzle. Sometimes it’s about giving dogs the time, space, and opportunity to engage with the world in ways that are meaningful to THEM.

🎉 A little update from the farm!

We’re now offering agility training at Horse, Hound & Hunt, and our beginner agility course is officially set up! I’m excited to add another way for dogs to build confidence, learn new skills, and have fun through enrichment. 🐾

Here’s to more adventures, more muddy noses, and more happy dogs!

Because a tired dog is nice, but a fulfilled dog is even better. 💚

Remember Murphy? 🐾🤎

The first time he visited the farm, he was a little unsure of his surroundings. He needed some time to take everything in before he felt comfortable enough to really explore.

This time?

He walked in and got straight to work. 😂

Nose down.
Following scents.
Investigating the woods.
Tracking something VERY important. 👃🌿
And, of course, taking a quick snack break along the way. 😂

This is one of my favorite things about enrichment. Sometimes the biggest change isn’t what we teach a dog to do—it’s what happens when we give them the time, space, and freedom to figure things out for themselves.

Murphy didn’t need me to tell him what to investigate today.

He knew exactly what he wanted to do.

Follow his nose. Follow his instincts. Be a dog. 🤎🐾

Every dog is different, and sometimes the best enrichment experience is simply creating the space for them to discover what makes them feel good.

And Murphy was VERY happy to get back to business. 😂🌿

Enrichment looks different for every dog. And that’s one of the things I love most about it. 🐾

For Winnie, it’s freedom.

It’s moving her body, exploring, making her own choices, following her nose—and THE HUNT. 😂

Does she ever actually catch anything?

Nah. 😂

Does she give it maximum effort every single time?

ABSOLUTELY.

And that’s exactly the point.

My job as an enrichment technician isn’t to make every dog do the same activities or fit into some predetermined idea of what enrichment should look like.

My job is to figure out what makes your dog tick and then create opportunities that allow them to engage in the things that are meaningful to them.

For Winnie, today that meant freedom, movement, choices, exploration…and hunting absolutely nothing with her entire soul. 😂

Helping owners understand and meet the individual needs of their dogs is what I specialize in.

Because my work isn’t only about helping dogs.

I’m helping people live better with their dogs, too. 🤎

That’s what enrichment is all about.
