Be very careful with the upcoming heat. The first very hot days of the year are always the most dangerous. Brachycephalic (pushed in face breeds), old pets, pets with heart or lung disease, and overweight pets are at the greatest risk. If you arre going out and will be making stops for errands leave your pet at home. Keep them in cool spots. Mist or wipe them with cool water. If you see problems (excessive panting, falling over, high temperature, lack of responsiveness) cool them down and seek emergency care right away.

Sager Animal Hospital
COVID-19 Protocol
Effective March 18, 2020

Everyone at Sager Animal Hospital is concerned for our patients, clients and staff. We are following the advice from our state and federal health organizations. We want to keep the hospital open as long as we can.

We have increased our cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Depending on the ever-changing circumstances, we may have to ask you to postpone an elective appointment. Thank you for your understanding.

In adherence with public health recommendations, clients are not allowed into the office. Upon arrival, please call us from your cell phone and someone will come out to get your pet. When you call, we can discuss the case. After the appointment, we will discuss the findings and recommendations. We will give you the total charge for the visit.

Credit card payments will be taken over the phone. If you need to pay by cash, it can be given to the staff member who returns your pet to your car.

We will continue to regularly check current medical and public health advice, and we will reevaluate our policy as needed. Thank you for your support.

Please stay safe and healthy.

With Halloween coming up many of us will have lots of chocolate around the house. Make sure you keep it out of reach of your pets, especially your dogs. Dogs are more likely to eat lots of chocolate than cats. Remember dark chocolate is more toxic than milk chocolate.

Today is National Rabies Awareness Day. Rabies is a devastating virus affecting all mammals. This can be a lethal virus for our dogs and cats. You can prevent it by reducing the risk of exposure to wild animals (especially coyotes, raccoons, foxes, skunks, fishers, bats, and woodchucks). Keep garbage covered and preferably inside a garage or shed. Do not allow dogs to run alone at night, and most importantly vaccinate your pet. People can get rabies and if not treated promptly it can be lethal. Be careful when you are around wildlife

As people prepare for fall many people will change or add to the antifreeze in their cars. This could lead to puddles of antifreeze in the driveway. Not only is antifreeze very toxic but dogs really like the taste and will often lick it all up. This is a very serious problem. If you find a puddle clean it up. If you see your dog drink antifreeze call us or an emergency clinic right away. Immediate action is critical.
