HART is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in the western Maryland region located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. HOURS:
General -- Monday-Saturday 8am-5pm
Adoption Wing -- Tuesday 10am-5pm, Wednesday 11am-7pm, Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm
Bredel Vet Clinic -- Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, and every other Saturday, 8am-5pm
Bed 'N Bark Inn -- Monday-Saturday 8am-5pm, Sunday 8am-2pm
MuttWorks -- Tuesday-Saturday by appt.

Our playful three-year-old Husky mix had a blast showing off his skills with some of our amazing volunteers, especially conquering the tunnel like a pro!

Pinto is smart, sweet, and eager to please. He’s truly the total package, and gets along well with dogs, cats, and children!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Have a HART Summer Kickoff last night! It was a beautiful evening by the lake, celebrating summer while supporting homeless pets in need. 💙

Our adoptable pups Scout, Yeti, Pinto, Jack-Jack, and Goose had an amazing time meeting everyone and soaking up all the love!

A huge thank you to The Harbor Bar at Dutch's At Silver Tree for hosting us and helping make the evening so special.

We’re also incredibly grateful to everyone who bid in our silent auction or purchased raffle tickets. Your support truly makes a difference for the animals in our care!

And of course, thank you to the many generous businesses and individuals who donated auction items and helped make this event possible! We couldn’t do it without this amazing community!

Let’s kick off Friday with a happy adoption update!

Remember our terrific Tonka? After more than 130 days of waiting, she finally got the happy ending she deserved. 💛

Now known as Georgia, this sweet girl has settled beautifully into her forever home, complete with a loving family, zoomies in the yard, and even a furry sister, former HART adoptee Jolene!

From stray dog to cherished family member, Georgia’s story is one we know will make you smile. Read her full happy tail update on our blog today!

Check out our sweet senior Hero loving some playtime! 💙

We recently discovered his love for water, and he’s been having a blast splashing around in the pool!

Hero is a purebred 9-year-old Doberman Pinscher looking for a loving home for his golden years after being surrendered due to his family’s health issues.

This gentle soul is housebroken, calm, and full of love! Plus, as a senior, his adoption fee is half off to help him find a home!

When Hero first arrived at HART, he was a shy guy, but with love and patience from our staff and volunteers, he’s really started to come out of his shell. He’s even discovered how much he enjoys toys and playtime!

Hero gets along with calm dogs, but would likely do best as the only dog in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. His favorite thing is simply being close to his people. 🥹

This sweet senior deserves the comfort, love, and security of a family to call his own.
