If you’re looking for a dog trainer and the trainer who comes most highly recommended is consistently booked 3 to 4 months in advance, but you decide to contact another trainer who can get you in immediately because you don’t feel you can wait, you might want to stop and ask yourself why one trainer is booked so far in advance while the other has immediate availability.

There may be a reason for that difference.

Do your research, ask questions, and make your decision wisely. When it comes to your dog’s training, choosing the first available option isn’t always choosing the best one.

I’m taking full advantage of this beautiful weather, enjoying some time outside while continuing to work with Mick.

Meanwhile, my family has apparently decided that I need a new wardrobe, and they’ve started buying me clothes that make me look like Frank Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond. I’m still trying to figure out whether I should take that as a compliment because everyone loved Frank, or be concerned because they think I’m turning into him. 😂

We had the opportunity to do an in-home evaluation with Kumo and his owners. Kumo can be extremely reactive, and it took us quite a while to help him settle down. Once he did, however, we were able to shape some very nice behaviors that he picked up quickly.
Hopefully, his owners will be able to reinforce those behaviors between now and our next session so we can continue building on that progress and start seeing a different side of Kumo.
We will be working with him over the next six weeks through private lessons, with the goal of creating lasting change in how he responds to and perceives the world around him.

Today was our second session with Zoltan and his owner. We worked with him in public, focusing on his reactivity toward other dogs. We brought Oliver along to help, and Zoltan showed no reactivity toward him. Fortunately, we also encountered three other dogs, allowing us to address some minimal reactive tendencies in real-world situations. Those moments were easily managed with me handling the leash, but they also showed how quickly the behavior could escalate into a potentially dangerous situation without proper handling.
We will continue working through these situations to build reliable behaviors and help Zoltan become more comfortable and confident around other dogs. The goal is to reduce the stress and uncertainty he experiences when other dogs are present in his environment.

This was our last private session with Koda, and he will definitely be missed. He’s such a sweet, vocal little dog, and it’s been rewarding to see how much his life and his owner’s life have improved over the past four weeks.
