Thank you to everyone for the understanding and support you have shown me while going through a difficult time.
Unfortunately, my battle is far from over.
I recently started offering limited grooming services. But, as of today, my business is permanently closed. I will be turning off the phone in the next few days.
I was fortunate to have such an amazing clientele!

Loki needs a home!
If you have been to the kennel in the last few years, you may remember Loki.
Since I have closed the kennel, Loki spends most of his time in the grooming room with just the cats for company.
Loki gets along with all of the animals in my household, except for Huey. He has also gone on overnight visits with two of my employees. He doesn't have a problem with my employee's toddler or any of the other animals in either household.
He is potty trained and loves to play with his ball. Although he is an older boy, he is still healthy.
Quite frankly he deserves a better home than the one I am currently providing.
If you would be interested in getting to know Loki a little better, please reach out.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the support I have had from the community. That being said, I believe it is time to close the kennel. My last day for boarding pets will be February 11.
I will miss both you and your pets.

Prim & Popper is excited for everyone to meet the newest addition, Victoria! Victoria is a certified Fear Free vet technician who is making her start in grooming.
I actually met Victoria years ago at the Abilene Animal Hospital. I tried talking her into letting me teach her how to groom. Events in her life changed, and now I am happy to have her here.
While her styling experience is limited, her ability to provide the health benefits your dog needs for a good groom are right on point.
With all baths, she will do nails, a**l glands, and ears. Her time is limited since she is only available to work every other week, so be sure to book now. She would love meeting you and your pup!

I have been incredibly touched by the concern and support of so many people. When I moved to Abilene in 1998, I believed it was temporary. Instead, years passed and I built relationships. Thank you all for making what I anticipated a temporary stop a home.

Now, for an update. I completed six rounds of chemo a couple of months ago. Around that time, I requested a ct scan be done. The ct scan showed the tumor had increased in size. My Salina oncologist recommended radiation along with chemotherapy.

I also talked with a radiation oncologist at KU Med. An oncologist from KU Med is now working with Salina. My best option is a clinical trial that combines five treatments of a higher dose radiation with an oral chemotherapy.

While my last PET scan showed probable cancerous activity in the lymphnodes close to the pancreas; the area of concern has noticeably decreased from my previous PET scan.

To be eligible for the clinical trial, the activity in my lymphnodes has to have stopped. It also requires eight rounds of chemo. I started chemo again last Tuesday. I will do round eight next Tuesday. I don't know how much more chemo I will need to do before I get another PET scan.

I felt really good after my month long reprieve from chemo.

I will be posting future updates on caringbridge.org. You can check for updates or reach out with words of support on this platform. Thanks to all of you!

Meet Bo & Stewart! These two bonded neutered males are looking for a new loving home. They are missing the love and attention of their owner, who recently passed away. Would you please consider providing them a new comfy home in return for endless affection. If you would like to meet these sweet boys or have any questions, please text 785-263-5442.

I thought it might be time to post an update.
Business first! We are still open for boarding and daycare. Our current weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you need to get ahold of us, please text.
As most of you know, I have greatly reduced grooming services. Unfortunately, they are about to be reduced again. Miranda is looking towards new horizons. So, we will be cutting back on simple baths and large dogs. My current plan is to groom a few small dogs when I am capable. I am currently not rescheduling grooming appointments.
Now for a personal update. My chemo cycle is every two weeks. I've only had two rounds. The first round was very difficult. This last time was better. I'm mainly tired and spend too much time on my behind.
I don't know how many rounds of chemo I will have to do before I'm eligible for surgery.
I have not lost total contact with the dogs.
Most nights I do make it out to the kennel to potty dogs before bedtime. I also do some dinnertime and weekend work. Jodi has been picking up the slack.

I want to start this by saying I am not closing the kennel. I am canceling grooming appointments.
I apologize to the clients that patiently waited for me to return from a month long vacation to get their dogs groomed.
I was able to get a few solid days of work accomplished, when finally discomfort forced me to the doctors office.
I have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I don't what treatment will entail. Which means I'm also not sure how to effectively make future grooming appointments.
Currently, Miranda has choosen a handful of dogs that she feels able to shave.
Boarding will remain open.
