Today we're celebrating International Sloth Day! 🦥
Did you know the type of sloth housed at Abilene Zoo is a Linnaeus two-toed sloth? Two-toed sloths can be recognized by their four pointed pseudo-canines at the front of their mouths. Sloths also spend a significant amount of their lives hanging upside-down. Because of this constant exercise, adult sloths are pound-for-pound stronger than humans! Bring a 4x6 commemorative photo of a cherished animal or person and decorate it with one of our provided frames. Leave your photo on the community altar or bring it home. One of the most exciting parts of the year is taking place right now at Abilene Zoo! 🦋 Thousands of monarch butterflies are making their way south for the winter and making stops right here in Abilene. As part of the monarch SAFE program and home to a certified waystation, Abilene Zoo is proud to play a part in conserving this endangered species. Currently, several garden beds and trees are covered with monarchs. While harsh weather could limit how many you see, be sure to come by soon to observe this native American species in action. Get your catrina attire ready for Dia de los Mu***os presented by Great Lakes Cheese! The catrina contest will be held both nights of the event and the winner each night will recieve a free family membership. Contestants will also walk in the Dia de los Mu***os parade. Register the day of the event before 7 pm.

Goob is making some big leaps! Many of Goob's fans know that when he was born, he had trouble feeding from his mother and sustained an eye injury. When the keeper staff made the decision to hand-rear him, it meant a long road of slow baby steps toward reintegrating him with the troop. Now Goob is fully healed and he is spending quality time with his parents Seshen and Chewie including vocalizing and grooming, which are important steps in a lemurs bonding process. Goob has also been seen following his parents around which is giving him the confidence he needs to climb and jump to his full potential! 😁 If you're excited about Goob's story, help us thank our wonderful keepers in the comments.

There is still time to get tickets for Dia de los Mu***os presented by Great Lakes Cheese and register for community ofrendas! 🏵️ This cultural festival takes place November 1st and 2nd from 6pm-9pm and features live music, folklorico dancers, crafts, animal encounters and more!

Participate in the event by registering for a community ofrenda or compete in the catrina contest. There is so much to do at this year's event and we can't wait to see you there.

Boo at the Zoo presented by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union kicked off this weekend with loads of fall family fun! 🎃
Costumes, wildlife and endless candy make this event one to remember. Our guests enjoy the petting zoo, animal parades and live shows happening non-stop throughout the day.
