Buddy ❤️
Tiny rooster. Giant spirit.
I hatched him from an egg and had the privilege of watching him become exactly who he was meant to be: fearless, stubborn, protective, and convinced he was ten times bigger than he actually was.
For at least four years—probably closer to five—he ruled his little corner of the world with absolute confidence. He took his job seriously, kept watch over his flock, and never backed down from anything. Not bad for a bantam cochin who could fit under one arm.
Last night, Buddy passed away peacefully in his sleep.
As heartbreaking as it is to say goodbye, I'm grateful it happened quietly, without fear or struggle. He lived a good rooster life: sunshine, treats, hens to look after, and plenty of opportunities to remind everyone that size and courage are two very different things.
Tiny and mighty. Fierce protector. Hatched by my own hands and loved every day of his life.
Goodnight, little buddy. Thank you for all the years, all the crowing, and all the attitude.
