Fellow Aberdeen area equestrians, we are seeking interest in participating in weekly ranch riding practice sessions at the Akkerman arena. 🗯️

What day and time frame would be most convenient for you? Would you prefer an evening time during the week or a Saturday morning? Are there other options you would like to propose?
❌Friday nights are out due to races❌

The practice sessions will focus on:
💥refining specific skills
💥understanding judging criteria

And practicing various ranch riding disciplines, including:
💥 ranch riding patterns
💥 trail
💥 rail work

We would also do mock shows at this practice to simulate actual competitions and foster preparation. This collaborative initiative is designed to promote mutual support, learning, and progress among participants, regardless of their experience level. We welcome individuals with varying levels of experience, from those seeking to learn more about ranch riding to seasoned enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge. Additionally, we encourage those who may not participate in ranch riding but appreciate a positive and supportive community of friends to participate.

Your dog and pony show! We are making some fun of the snow while we have it! As of yesterday afternoon Aberdeen received 9.3” of snow, with a littler more over night! It will be a very muddy mess, but we are glad for some much needed moisture!

Partnered with an advanced horse to further develop my skill set! Her advanced training offers various opportunities for me to explore advanced maneuvers while also challenging me to hone my craft!

Developing a better feel for flying lead changes, advanced stops, and all that goes into them!

It’s ok for your horse to struggle when they’re learning.

Don’t micro manage them or do it for them.

Support them so they can turn that struggle into strength.

Too often people try to over help or micro manage their horse because of their own desires or insecurities. Doing so is a total disservice to the horse.

Being a true leader for your horse is about setting things up and supporting them to make the internal changes needed so the horse is more confident, understanding, willing, trusting, etc.

A great horse is physically strong, mentally strong, emotionally strong, spiritually strong.

How you lead them determines whether they weaken or strengthen in the moments of struggle.

February has arrived, the sun is starting to rise earlier and it stays light out longer into the evening. We were also graced with one more day near 50! Tomorrow night we could see 3-5 inches of snow, and we will have quite a bit colder weather the next week or two… However, spring is not far too away now!

We began the morning at -16 with a windchill of -42, but we have risen to -11 with a windchill of -37. I know we can all agree that this is flat out cold for anyone! As someone living with Raynauds, a symptom that means a lack of blood flow to the hands and feet that stems from an autoimmune disease, my down-filled coat has been the MVP in keeping me warm these last several days. The pockets even allow for my hands to warm up! It’s true that you never know what you have until it’s gone, and although I’ve been living with this issue my whole life I’ve absolutely been living more grateful for this coat the last few days! How cold is it where you are?

Chewy and I made sure to get out on this 40 plus degree day! Enjoyed a ride on Smoke with my supervisor at my side. The end of the day graced us with a beautiful sunset to boot! Even though weather has been a bit unpredictable this season you simply cannot complain when we get some warm weather!

14 degrees feels pretty good after a couple weeks of below zero temps! Horses seem to think this is pretty nice weather compared to mid-summer heat!

We were dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh on this Christmas morning! Another beautifully frosted scenery and a little sleigh ride with my good ol’ reliable girl, Cheyenne!

We were very happy to be able to get out and get some exercise in the 50 degree weather yesterday! Smoke and I put on 3 miles easy! It sure is a nice change from the cold and wet we’ve had the last few weeks!
